An exciting opportunity has arisen for an inspirational and compassionate Consultant Midwife to join our team, working across maternity services to support the development of the professional midwifery agenda to achieve consistency of practice and high standards of care, and innovation.


The post holder will lead on inequalities and support the maternity workforce in realising their full potential and capability in supporting women and their families.

Working closely with maternity teams and other key stakeholders the post holder will develop a maternity service that is responsive and inclusive to the needs of all women and birthing people.


Leading the cultural safety team the successful applicant will be responsible for the development and ongoing implementation of safer, compassionate, and inclusive maternity care reflecting the organisational approach to the wider National Strategy and recommendations.


This key role will support the triumvirate with proactively embedding the requirements of the National Maternity and Neonatal Strategies & Priorities.


With significant health inequalities in Sheffield the focus of this role is to improve health outcomes for those residing in the most deprived areas of Sheffield as well as improving outcomes for Black, Asian and Ethnic Minority women, birthing people and families.


Responsible for the development and ongoing implementation of safer, compassionate, and inclusive maternity care reflecting the organisational approach to the wider National Strategy and recommendations.


Leading and sustaining service redesign and empowering midwives to meet the needs of the local population in line with key objectives outlined in local and national policy documents.


Providing expert clinical advice to medical and midwifery staff to ensure best practice standards are met that will improve outcomes for women and enable choice.


Make a significant contribution to the clinical governance agenda by ensuring that midwifery practice is evidence based and lessons learnt from local incident reporting and National are disseminated into practice.

The Directorate of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Neonatology is based at the Jessop Wing which is linked to the Royal Hallamshire Hospital.

The maternity unit has over 6800 births per year and is a Regional Tertiary Maternity Service with a Level 3 Neonatal Unit of 44 cots.

A tertiary Gynae-Oncology service and a changing Gynaecology Service, which includes an Assisted Conception Unit, complete the services within the Directorate.
