About the Program:

Employee will work as part of the Secretariat of the High Ambition Coalition for Nature and People (HAC).

The HAC is an intergovernmental group of more than 100 countries—co-chaired by Costa Rica and France, with the United Kingdom as Ocean co-chair— championing a global deal for nature and people with the central goal of protecting at least 30 percent of the world's land and ocean area by 2030.

The 30x30 target is a global target which aims to halt the accelerating loss of species and protect vital ecosystems that are the source of our economic security.

The HAC Secretariat is co-hosted by WRI and the Global Environment Facility (GEF).


Job Highlight:

The position reports to the Director of the HAC Secretariat.

You will work closely with the Director and the Program Officer for Political Engagement to actively collaborate with HAC member countries at ministerial and sub-ministerial levels to motivate and sustain political momentum toward achieving the 30x30 target.

You will be supported by other members of the HAC Secretariat as well as relevant staff in the WRI London and Global Offices.


What will you do:


  • Maintain the visibility of the 30x30 target and ensure sufficient motivation toward its implementation, especially through political engagement and awarenessraising among governments, media, scientists, and civil society: (40%)
  • Strengthen national ambitions and strategies to reach the 30x30 conservation target, including by advising governments on national policies and plans: (40%)

Support in the mapping of the financial support related to 30x30 and engage with government and private partners on finance for 30x30: (20%)


What will you need:

Education:You have a completed Bachelor's degree in political science, socio-economic sciences, natural sciences, or related studies

Experience: You have 7+ years of relevant professional experience

  • Experience engaging senior leaders from governments
  • Experience engaging financial institutions and nongovernmental organizations is a plus
  • Experience working with political negotiations and technical aspects of the Convention of Biological Diversity and related international agreements
  • Experience working on issues and policy processes related to nature conservation and related issues

Requirements: Existing work authorization is required where this position is based. WRI is unable to authorize visa work authorization.
