Description

Expansion of Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trusts (LTHT) Stroke Mechanical Thrombectomy [SMT] service is critical in meeting the NHS Long-Term Plan ambitions regarding stroke outcome.

LTHT has committed to the delivery of an extended day SMT service by April 2024 and 24/7/365 services by April 2025.

Central to the delivery of this ambition is the recruitment of specialised consultant staff skilled in the technical management and delivery of SMT, and of the nursing and AHP workforce to support them.

There are also plans in progress to double the biplane image intensifier fleet within the department to support the SMT and general Interventional Neuroradiology workload.

As an initial step, we are recruiting two consultant interventional neuroradiologists [NIRs] to facilitate extended day working (extending from the current weekday 17:00 service termination to 20:00h weekdays).

The eventual aim is to recruit to a complement of six consultant NIRs and deliver a 24/7/365 service.

The successful postholders will also contribute to general and subspecialty interventional neuroradiology services in close liaison with colleagues in neurology and neurosurgery.
