Applications are invited for a Senior Clinical Fellow in General Medicine/ Gastroenterology at Prince Philip Hospital, Llanelli. This post is for one year initially with the potential to extend to two years if required.


The post holder should assist in the teaching and training of Junior Medical Staff and undergraduate students and participate in regular audit meetings.

You will join colleagues in a very dynamic and forward thinking service. We have a busy, modern and well-equipped hospital which opened in 1990. There are approx. 225 acute and elective inpatient beds, supporting Acute and Elective General Medicine and Elective General Surgery, Orthopaedics, and Urology.

The hospital provides surgical day case theatres, endoscopic suite, Radiology and Laboratory support and palliative care facilities, including a new hospice facility.

It also provides for a range of specialist outpatient clinics including Cardiology, Haematology, Respiratory, Gastroenterology, Elderly Care, Endocrinology, Sleep medicine, Rheumatology, ENT, General Surgery, TIA clinics.

It is also the site of a new Breast Unit and Rapid Access Lung cancer clinic.

Development of a comprehensive Gastroenterology Service across Hywel Dda Health Board. Acute inpatient assessment and treatment for General Medical Patients, community-based services, general and Specialist DGH and Community-based outpatient clinics.
Effective leadership to multidisciplinary staff members of the unit. Development of teaching, training and research within the Organisation


Hywel Dda University Health Board is the planner and provider of NHS healthcare services for people in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and its bordering counties.

Our 11,000 members of staff provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services for around 384,000 people across a quarter of the landmass of Wales.

  • 48 general practices (four of which are managed practices), 47 dental practices (including three orthodontic), 99 community pharmacies, 44 general ophthalmic practices (43 providing Eye Health Examination Wales and 34 low vision services) and 17 domiciliary only providers and 11 health centres;
  • Numerous locations providing mental health and learning disabilities services;
  • Highly specialised and tertiary services commissioned by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee, a joint committee representing seven health boards across Wales.
