I am working with a Public Sector Organisation based in Greenwich who are looking for a Strategy and Policy Support Officer for 6 Months Initially.

The role is full time, to start ASAP and paying £21.46 Umbrella per hour. The role is in scope of IR35.


Job Purpose
The Strategy & Policy Support Officers will work as part of a team delivering work to help drive forward improvement activity across the Council in particular the Transport division


Main Duties

  • The post holder will be required to support the creation and operation of a number of Transformation Planning Boards this will involve but not be limited to, liasing with Assistant Diectors and Head of Service's within the Transport team. As well as DMT support officers to coordinate and book in meetings and venues and other transport colleagues.
  • Manage the overall collation and distribution of documents and papers for meetings to ensure that meeting attendees have access to the correct paperwork.
  • Word process complex documents to ensure high quality accurate documents are produced and create presentations and spreadsheets using software packages to support senior officers in delivering their work.
  • Carry out policy related research under the direction of the Policy, Performance and Insights Manager to ensure that Members and Senior Officers are uptodate on corporate policy issues and initiatives.
  • Establish and accurately maintain electronic monitoring/data capture systems. Collate, analyse and report/present data and statistics related to general and specialist policy areas, as required.
  • The post holder may be required to support the management of major Directorate and Corporate Change Programmes and Projects as defined by the Transformation Planning Boards they support. They will on average be expected to be supporting the management 24 of these projects or programmes at any one time.
  • The post holder will have to work across all Council services at points but mainly the Transport division helping to ensure innovative solutions are found to some of the most significant policy and service challenges the organisation faces, this is one of the key purposes also linking with the Change & Improvement Team. This will require a good level of understanding and expertise across a diverse range of defined and notdefined policy areas.
  • The post holder will have to ensure safekeeping of all relevant technical and IT equipment used by the wider Transport team.
  • The post holder will have periods of working in an environment of high intensity which will require corresponding physiological demands as well as flexibility.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Have knowledge and understanding of the range of services delivered by a local authority, the wider delivery models they are part of, the challenges they face as well as the opportunities
  • Have knowledge on local, regional and national policy developments that could impact local authorities either directly or indirectly
  • Have a highlevel of interpersonal and communications skills
  • Have the ability to quickly and effectively develop a good level of understanding of a new topic to provide high quality work for senior managers
  • Experience in supporting the set up and operation of organisation board meetings
