Exciting opportunities have arisen for individuals to undertake the role of a secretary within the Business Services Department.

There are 8 full time, permanent positions based at Headquarters Essex, North LPA - Colchester, West LPA - Harlow and South LPA - Southend where you will be providing a service to a Command Team or department Head.


You will be providing a full range of services, including but not limited to: minute taking and typing from audio and/or notes of meetings, drafting letters, diary management and liaising with both internal and external customers.


You will often be required to work independently but also as part of a team in a pressurized environment and will need to organize and prioritize your own workload.


The demands of the Command team you will be working for can be fluid and dynamic, therefore you must be able to evidence a high level of flexibility and decision making in order to prioritize and adjust workloads to meet deadlines.


As a first point of contact for your Command team and a representative of Business Services, you must have effective communication skills, self-confidence and a good telephone manner offering quality customer service at all times.

Initiative and judgement to respond to and deal with problems sensitively as they arise without the need for support are also essential.


It is necessary you are proficient in a range of IT products including Word, Excel, Microsoft Outlook (diary management) and preferably OneNote/PowerPoint.

You will be able to produce documents to a high standard ensuring accuracy at all times. Audio-typing skills and shorthand will be an advantage, together with a high standard of grammar.

Previous experience of minute taking/recording of meetings and actions

Proficient use of MS Office information technology packages


Previous secretarial work experience, including diary management, and a good understanding of the Police environment and policy would be desirable but are not essential.


Successful applicants for this role will be defined as an; Office based Agile Worker - Office based agile working with designated team area.

Works predominantly (60% or more) in one office space. The rest of the time works at home. Some travel may be required to other police sites.
