About this opportunity


As Senior Credit Officer you'll lead a team of four people in the Retail, Food, Drink and Leisure sectors in credit risk management.

This will involve sanctioning credit proposals for new to bank business, increases for existing customers and annual renewals.

It will also involve assessing and oversighting credit paper submissions from Credit Officers within your team and providing support and training in each of the defined sectors.


Overall, you'll analyse, investigate and evaluate credit risk, assist in the development of policy and appetite recommendations and challenge and advise assigned areas of the business to ensure credit appetite and any risks are understood, mitigated and controlled.

What you'll be doing

  • Manage relationships with key internal customers and act as their business partner, whilst typically using support teams to ensure client satisfaction.
  • Implementing business plans to achieve results within a given area or department.
  • Meet the needs of significant customers related to complex, often customised products and services
  • Make authoritative technical and/or professional recommendations that have a significant shortterm and longterm impact on the business.
  • Write and edit materials for a variety of target populations, tailoring the tone and content to match the needs and expectations of each audience.
  • Implementing team's formal development framework with guidance from senior colleagues, whilst also informally coaching others across the organisation in area of expertise and pursuing and investing in opportunities for own personal development.
  • Creating and delivering a key element of the organisation's knowledge management system.
  • Lead the output delivery for a substantial operational department by leading others.
  • Develop functional or operational policies and participate in developing policy frameworks for area of responsibility or department, creating underlying procedures and monitoring their implementation within the organisation.
  • Run a significant portion of the organisation's risk management and/or control process, contributing to the development and implementation of risk management policies and procedures.
  • Develop innovative solutions by integrating and analysing complex and diverse information sources.
  • Develop training courses to meet identified needs in order to improve performance and meet business requirements, whilst running complex leadership development programs to enable personal transformations.
What you'll need

  • Experience of using personal lending discretion to sanction corporate credits.
  • Experience of credit analysis, including financial performance, business performance and key risk assessment.
  • Experience of leading and developing teams.
  • Validated experience using decision making and good judgement.
  • Strong communication and partner management skills.
  • Previous knowledge and experience of designated sectors is desirable.
