Job Description:


Job Purpose


To be responsible for the completion of the examination work associated with the strategy and instructions of casework and Scene of Crime submissions as set by the reporting practitioner and/or standard operating procedures.

Contribute to the success of the casework teams by completing all set tasks within the Key Performance Indicators set by the line manager.

Ensure quality is maintained at all times. Engage with continuous improvement initiatives.


Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
To examine and process exhibits as per standard operating procedures that are relevant to your Business Unit:

  • Full exhibit management and inputting accurate case information onto our case management system.
  • Adhere to all aspects of the customer Operational Protocol, GLP and Eurofins Quality Manual
  • Carry out necessary examinations / analysis to required timescales
  • Notice when the examination may have to differ from the instructions/strategy set by the reporting scientist and agree appropriate action to take the examination forward
  • Discuss any potential other examination types that may further assist the customer with the Reporting Scientist
  • Critical check findings of other Examiners of examinations that fall within the individual's competency.
  • Be responsible for the integrity and continuity of exhibits, including their return while under your ownership.
  • Communicate examination progress with the Work Flow Supervisor / Section Manager ensuring any delays are communicated. Escalate any issues that may arise
  • Assist with aspects of Science and Quality that fall within the skills of the individual. Provide support to others to assist with Science and Quality investigations
  • Produce an appropriate witness statement or equivalent and attend court as requested
  • Responsibility for individual daily time booking on the case management system (CLIMs) associated with the allocated case.
  • Seek continual improvement of methodology and processes that will have a positive impact on quality and effectiveness. Raise ideas at Team meetings and huddles
  • Mentor and buddy members of the team. Offer advice and support to new recruits.

Qualifications:


Knowledge, Experience and Technical Skills
Developing Examiner

  • Successful completion of the SOC, Simple Item exam or Lab Tech training package
  • Demonstrated knowledge and adherence to the required Customer Operational Protocols, Standard Operating Procedures, Quality Management System, Health & Safety documents and CPS requirements.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and adherence to the Forensic Science Regulator's Codes of Practice and Conduct.
  • Completion of a court awareness course
  • Awareness and understanding of other evidence types
Established Examiner (all the above plus)

  • Routinely achieving or exceeding their KPI's as a Developing Examiner and demonstrating the behaviours required for the role
  • Trained and competent in blood, semen and saliva body fluid searching techniques
  • Additional training may also be given in Fibres, Hairs, Cold Cases and Profile Qualification
  • Sufficient experience to coach and mentor Developing Examiners
Senior Examiner (all the above plus) Subject to business need

  • At least 5 years' experience as an Established Examiner
  • Technical Trainer of Simple Item exam, Blood, Semen and Saliva
  • Project Leadership (e.g. Quality and Continuous
