About us

Camden is changing on the inside to make life better for everyone. Because we're not just home to the UK's fast-growing economy. We're home to the most important conversations happening today. And we're making radical social change a reality, so that nobody gets left behind. Here's where you can help decide a better future for us all.

The Role

Do you have a passion for creating great social media and digital content? Do you enjoy the buzz of big media and political stories? Are you looking to develop your communications skills in a multi-discipline team? If so, this could be the job for you.

You'll be based in the Media and External Relations team within Camden Council's wider Communications service, reporting directly to our Communications Manager (Channel) and also working under the guidance of our Senior Media Manager.

Your role will include a specific focus on producing and publishing multimedia content and you will have a good understanding of how to target audiences through a variety of channels.

With the support of the team and following the Council's Channel Strategy, you will be expected to manage the day-to-day output of the council's social and digital media channels, produce short videos and other shareable social media content, write copy for, edit and manage the distribution of the council's e-newsletter and assist with print products the council produces, including the Council's residents' magazine and information inserts in local newspapers.

You will be in charge of carrying out regular evaluation of all Council channels and supporting the Communications Manager (Channel) in the commissioning of wider channel research.

You will also work with experienced Media and External Relations Officers and the Senior Media Manager to produce news releases and interview briefing notes, provide broadcast media support and agree responses to media enquiries, allowing you to gain experience across the team and build a clear connection between news and channel.

With experience, you will also be part of the Media and External Relations team's on call rota, working with the Senior Media Manager to deal with out of hours media enquiries or issues.

About you
You'll be an imaginative and possess excellent communication skills, verbally and in writing.

You will also be an experienced problem solver who can work on their own initiative and with others, be adaptable and be prepared to take on a wide variety of project work.

You'll also have a keen news sense and political awareness - and be as interested in the story and campaign, as the channel.

You will be customer-focused, with experience of developing good relationships with various teams and services across an organisation.

You will have a strong desire to work for a public sector organisation dedicated to supporting its communities through a variety of challenges including the cost-of-living, housing and climate crises.
