Job description:


In Assurance, our purpose is to use insight from governance, risk and control to bring clarity so that decision makers in DVSA can make informed choices.

The role holder will champion the assurance principles and values underpinning the Assurance Strategy, encouraging a positive, transparent assurance culture across the Agency.


The role holder will support the Risk & Business Continuity Manager's, in the Risk & Business Continuity planning and facilitating of incident management forums to safeguard the Agency's key services.

The post holder will help to ensure there is a robust framework of control for Risk Management & Business Continuity Management, so that the Agency that takes account of best practice in these areas and ensure that we are delivering in accordance with wider Departmental and Government policies and procedures.


The post holder will provide advice and support, and often challenge, to senior colleagues to highlight the importance of risk & business continuity management and to encourage sound business decisions.

The post holder must act with diplomacy and discretion in conveying the importance of understanding risk and business continuity and how to use it sensibly and pragmatically, to ensure the Agency anticipates and prepares for threats, opportunities and disruptions that impact its objectives, finances or reputation.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Support the Assurance & Business Continuity Manager to ensure an effective Business Continuity & Incident Management Framework is in place for the Agency.
  • Provide expert advice and support to ensure business continuity responses to mitigate against key continuity risks.
  • Provide support in drafting and reviewing Business Continuity communications, including Intranet & SharePoint content and training materials.
  • Provide support to the Assurance & Risk Manager to ensure an effective Risk Management Framework is in place for the Agency.
  • Provide support in drafting and reviewing Risk Management communications, including SharePoint content and training materials.

Person specification:


About you:


We are looking for someone who has exceptional communication skills and can express themselves in a confident and concise manner with colleagues at all levels.

You will represent the department in a professional, open and honest manner, ensuring key messages are delivered to both internal and external senior stakeholders in a timely manner.

You will have good drafting skills with the ability to produce high quality documents.

You would be described as a diligent person with a can-do approach. You are happy to concentrate on your work and do a thorough job even when under pressure.

Ready to react quickly, you will be a focused and calm person who can get the job done regardless of the environment you are in.


You will come with experience of business continuity and risk which includes working with external advisors supporting management of business continuity incidents, business continuity planning and exercising, risk management and escalation.


Additional Information:


A minimum of 40% of your working time should be spent at your principal workplace, although requirements to attend other locations for official business, or carry out detached duty in another DfT workplace, will also count towards this level of attendance.

There may be the need for occasional out of hours working should the incident management team need support.

Travel will be expected with this role - approx. twice a quarter to attend away days, workshops and business meetings.
