Job Purpose:
To ensure the company meets customer and legislative food safety and quality requirement.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Managing corrective and preventative actions for nonconformances, carry out root cause analysis and ensure NCs are closed within the timescale and verify the effectiveness.
  • Ensure that QMS documentation is audited for accurate completion, maintained, and controlled via the document control procedure.
  • Ensure that all deviations from specification are reported, actioned, documented via the Nonconformance Procedure, or agreed via the Concession procedure.
  • To complete and investigate customer complaints including preparation, the investigation, reporting the key actions and following up, including sending communication to the customer.
  • Ensuring independent process and product checks are completed in each area according to the schedule and relevant actions taken if out of the limits or specification given.
  • Complete and organize the taste panel and/or buyback sessions and that any out of specification results are followed up diligently.
  • Ensure Shelflife samples are collected accurately and tested at end of life for mold or organoleptic against the organoleptic schedule.
  • Play active role in 3rd party and customer audits (present information to the auditor)
  • Conducting traceability exercises (present information to the auditor) to internal and external auditors.
  • To complete GMP audits including preparation, the audit, reporting the key actions and following up.
  • Glass & Hard Plastic register verification including follow up.
  • To complete CCP audits including preparation, the audit, reporting the key actions and following up.
  • To complete Internal Audits including preparation, the audit, reporting the key actions and following up.
  • An understanding of the Bakery HACCP system.
  • To know all Critical Control Points and the associated process for checking them.
  • To identify Food Safety risks i.e. foreign body, chemical or microbiological risks and to either take the appropriate corrective/preventative action or ensure it is reported accurately to the business.
  • To train and verify the training of the CCP's to relevant team members.
  • To understand and implement the Allergen awareness, procedures and controls.
  • To maintain and meet the analysis schedule for using the appropriate systems and sampling.
  • To maintain and meet the current Nutritional schedule using the appropriate systems and sampling.
  • To maintain and meet the current Allergen Testing schedule using the appropriate system.
  • To ensure that all costs associated with the Laboratory testing are documented accurately.
  • To identify key Bakery Pests on site, reporting the key actions and following up.
  • To help drive the training through mentoring and being the quality and food safety expert on shift.
  • Drive standards and actively provides coaching to promote the food safety/quality culture within the business.

Skills and Qualifications:


  • Some quality assurance experience and/or relevant qualifications (food science, science, food safety).
  • Some experience of FMCG environment preferred.
  • The ability to organize and prioritize own workload
  • Hands on approach to improvement technical knowledge throughout the general plant population.
  • Methodical and logical approach to improvements, with a keen eye for detail.
  • Proactive and flexible approach to work and training
  • Good communication skills
