Description

The post holder will lead the provision of an efficient, effective and high quality professional and well-co-ordinated medicines optimisation service capable of meeting all statutory, regulatory and NHS requirements ensuring alignment with the activity of the locality.

The postholder will provide professional leadership and Pharmaceutical Advice to local clinicians, oversee the performance management of primary care prescribing (including high dose-controlled drugs) throughout the locality and provide professional advice and performance manage quality aspects of primary care prescribing.

The post holder will line manage the Medicines Optimisation Team which form part of the Clinical Leadership and System Integration Directorate.

Main duties of the job

  • Be accountable for the delivery of the Salford locality annual quality and cost improvement plan. These will be enabled through close working relationship with GP member practices in association with the clinical lead for Medicines Optimisation
  • Management and leadership of the Medicines Optimisation team working closely with all other Salford locality teams and the clinical lead for Medicines Optimisation.
  • Ensure delivery of the Medicines Optimisation elements of the Salford standard in conjunction with other Commissioning Managers.
  • Oversight and management of the primary care prescribing budgets.
  • Ensuring information is properly managed and best practice is shared across the team, the locality and the wider NHS organisations.
  • Represent Salford locality at various interface groups across the health economy to ensure engagement with regard to new drug introductions, shared care responsibilities, joint formularies, therapeutic guidelines, antimicrobial stewardship.

Professional Registration and Qualification

Essential criteria

  • Pharmacy Degree and Current GPhC Registration
  • Educated to Masters level or equivalent level or equivalent experience of working at a senior level in specialist area.
Experience

  • Provide and receive highly complex, sensitive and contentious information, negotiate with senior stakeholders on difficult and controversial issues, and present complex and sensitive information to large and influential groups.
  • Persuade board and senior managers of the respective merits of different options, innovation and new opportunities.
  • Negotiate on difficult and very complex and detailed issues
  • Problem solving skills and ability to respond to sudden unexpected demands. Ability to analyse complex facts and situations and develop a range of options. Takes decisions on difficult and contentious issues where there may be a number of courses of action. Strategic thinking ability to anticipate and resolve problems before they arise.
  • Previously responsible for a budget, involved in budget setting and working knowledge of financial processes.
