We have an exciting opportunity for an driven individual to lead the team, based in Hatfield on a permanent contract. (Hybrid working)

As an Engineering Team Leader, you will manage a varied team of individual contributors and contracted resource and and the services they provide to our customers:

You will lead a resilient team relying on cross training and activity sharing to deliver the technical and non technical services to Tech Ops as well as internal support to Central Engineering.

You will take care of the performance and wellbeing of the team members, keeping them aligned and giving them sufficient autonomy to do their work. You will make sure that the products and/or services are delivered with the expected level of quality, fulfilling the expectations created in the amount of time agreed, in partnership with the Engineering Manager (EM).

Key Responsibilities:

Accountable for all aspects of the products and/or services the team is delivering, including appropriate timeliness and quality.

Leadership:

-
Define a clear global strategy for all services in the team :SCADA, Rainbow designer, technical support desk, site support requests, FIIX maintenance and document control
-
Set and negotiate service level agreement with the wide business
-
Inspire and lead other part of the business to adhere to service level agreement to deliver information and services on time
-
Work with the team of technical and non technical staff to put effective and sustainable processes in place, including ways to ensure innovation, experimentation and continuous improvement.
-
Inspire the other team members and be someone who is respected by the team.
-
Work actively to build good relationships and trust between the team and other stakeholders, embedding a 'one Ocado' approach.
-
Manage upwards effectively, making sure your Engineering Manager and Head of Engineering are informed of progress, celebrating team successes and making key risks visible.
-
Set clear goals and expectations for people in the team, providing timely feedback to support their development and improving their performance.
-
Set goals at a team level that cascade from the department / stream goals.
-
Set goals for sub contractor and monitor performance against data driven objectives
-
Represent the team in forums (operational meetings, post mortems, etc.) with the support of Team Members when appropriate.
-
Being able to inspire, motivate, and lead a diverse team with varying skill sets and roles is essential, this includes both technical and non technical staff.

Being able to manage the team's workflow, prioritize tasks, and ensure that all tasks are handled efficiently.

Identify inefficiency in the team and drive value by delivery through others

Define tool requirements for diverse engineering functions: SCADA, Rainbow designer, technical queries, site engineering support and document control.

Set up a road map for all the technical and non technical services delivered to tech ops.

Being able to adapt to changing situations, technologies, and project requirements in a fast-paced engineering environment

Being able to address conflicts within the team in a fair and timely manner, fostering a positive and productive work environment

Deliver for Today:

Understand the technical aspects of the team's work (including activities such as: SCADA, Technical Queries, Rainbow designer, Cognidocs ) for providing guidance and making informed decisions

Able to deliver the work in the team to cover absence

Set up support for global operation in multiple time zones

Critic the current tools to improve with the supplier for services: Rainbow designer, SCADA, Technical Queries, JIRA, Cognidocs

Help the team resolve difficult engineering problems through effective facilitation.

Focus on delivering value on time.

Know how to make an economic judgement to balance technical excellence with delivery speed.

Look ahead to identify risks as soon as possible (technical and organisational) and put in place mitigation plans, escalating when necessary.

Make sure that technical decisions are made in a timely manner and considering the constraints, standards and recommendations.

Make sure there is clarity in the area around technical strategy and levels of technical delegation and autonomy.

Suggest and implement improvements to identify and reduce waste in our ways of working, understanding cost and opportunity implications.

Clear and concise communication, both within the team and with other departments, is crucial for ensuring smooth operations and avoiding misunderstandings.

Being able to quickly and effectively resolve issues that arise within the team or in the projects they handle is critical.

Make sure that the team's products and services pursue technical excellence (with the economic constraints taken into account), with appropriate quality and security built-in.

Prepare a set of Key Performance Indicator to monitor the quality of all the services delivered in the team

Key Experience:

Practical and recent experience as an individual contributor in specified engineering specialities used in the team (Software, Data, Electronics, Test, Infrastructure, etc).

Experienced Team manager of both engineering and non engineering staff
-
Mentoring or managing others effectively and supporting development.
-
Ability to lead and direct your own and others' work to achieve objectives.
-
Prior experience in the field of engineering, preferably in a related technical area, to understand the nuances of the work being undertaken by the team.
-
Previous experience in a leadership role within an engineering or technical environment, demonstrating the ability to lead and manage a team effectively.
-
Previous involvement in managing engineering projects, demonstrating the ability to coordinate resources, set and meet deadlines, and deliver results.
-
Experience in managing a diverse team, including technical support staff and administrative personnel, with a focus on fostering a positive work culture and promoting professional development.

Experience in collaborating with various departments, such as product development, quality assurance, and operations, to ensure a smooth and efficient workflow across different functions.

Prior experience in managing technical documentation processes, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and accessibility of critical engineering documents (making sure the right information is readily available to those that need it in an effective and efficient manner)

Proven ability to handle complex technical issues, make informed decisions, and resolve challenges effectively within an engineering context.

Demonstrated ability to identify inefficiencies in workflows and implement strategies for process improvements and optimization.

Previous involvement in providing technical support to customers, understanding their needs, and ensuring timely and effective resolution of their technical issues.

Experience in managing and leading teams through periods of change, such as the implementation of new technologies, processes, or organizational restructuring.

Previous experience in conducting performance evaluations, providing constructive feedback, and implementing strategies for employee growth and development.
