The Growth Company's (GC) GM Business Growth Hub team have an exciting new opportunity for two Innovation Specialists who will deliver high quality specialist business innovation and growth advice, with a focus on key eligible sectors, to a portfolio of owners and senior managers of businesses that are aiming to achieve growth, particularly, but not exclusively through innovation.


These roles are fixed term contracts until 31st March 2025.

GM Business Growth Hub is a community of specialists with a passion to help businesses across Greater Manchester to realise their ambitions. Since 2011, the Hub has supported more than 15,000 businesses including start-ups, scale-ups and established businesses, providing finance guidance, creating international links, and paving the way for innovation and people development across the region. We work with the best of public and private partners, offering expert one-to-one and peer-to-peer business support, events, specialist programmes, funding and much more.


Key Responsibilities

  • Proactively establish and maintain effective business and innovation networks with a strong focus on business development and client engagement.
  • Ensure that potential clients comply with the project eligibility and suitability criteria by ensuring that initial checks, prior to formal assessment and action planning are carried out.
  • Personally introduce clients to those services identified as appropriate (internal and external) and monitor the delivery of these services to support the clients strategy and/or objectives and address their barriers to growth and innovation.
  • Undertake a detailed diagnostic on a business or particular functional/business area using appropriate tools and methodology to capture baseline data and identify barriers and needs, which should be detailed in a comprehensive innovation and growth plan. This will involve the analysis and interpretation of business and market data/intelligence to provide recommendations to senior management teams, boards and shareholders.
  • Deliver bespoke 1:1, onetomany, and cohort placebased innovation specialist support, enabling clients to fully meet their innovation growth potential. This typically requires complex intervention with a multidisciplinary approach to support provision.
  • Develop, manage and deliver communities of practice/small cohorts creating shared learning environments for likeminded individuals from similar and/or complimentary sectors, to forge trusted relationships, learn from others, and share experiences and new ideas.

About you

  • Significant experience of sector(s)/business experience in the private sector, including at a senior management or Director level. Ideally with product and development expertise from conception to commercialisation.
  • Degree level business education, or degree level qualification with a management body, or the relevant business experience to match those.
  • Proven track record in managing the range of business issues associated with periods of business growth.
  • Proven track record in working effectively in a professional team/s.
  • Professional experience and approach to managing and delivering business assessment, innovation advice and development.
  • Business development and account management skills.
  • Excellent planning, organisational, administrative and project management skills.

Skills Required:


  • Technical knowledge in the key areas of product or process development and/or science and technology.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the key national, subregional and local organisations and their role in supporting economic development and specifically business innovation growth.
  • Understanding of customer focused approach of working with businesses to foster engagement and encourage commitment to working towards economic development.
  • Team player, but also a selfstarter.
  • Proven critical thinking and problemsolving skills.
  • Able to identify opportunities and to be innovative.
