An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Public Health role within our Maternity Team.
Our maternity services here at Warwick hospital we have 3000 births a year and a dynamic and diverse team to help support the safe provision of care to mother, babies and families.
The post holder will be required to have great communication skills, be passionate about tackling the inequalities in health and work well within a small team.

As part of the NHS Long Term Plan, all expectant women and birthing people and their partners will be offered support via a maternity smoke-free pregnancy pathway.
This will also be replicated for the Acute sector for all adult inpatients.As part of this pathway all women, birthing people and adults who are admitted to hospital who smoke will be offered NHS funded tobacco cessation treatment and follow up support.
The post holder will work with the Public Health Midwife and the maternity team to achieve element 1 of the saving babies lives care bundle and reduce smoking in pregnancy by providing individualised stop smoking support to women and families in a flexible and innovative way.

The post holder will also be expected to aid the team in the acute sector working alongside the Tobacco Dependency Nurse Specialist in delivering the service.
It focuses on engaging with people in all maternity and acute settings and offering them practical support to change their behaviour to achieve their own choices and goals.

Key Result Areas
Work with the specialist Public Health Midwife, Tobacco Dependency Specialist Nurse and wider maternity and tobacco dependency team to deliver stop smoking support to help improve patient's health outcomes.
Provide 1:1 behavioural stop smoking support and advice for smokers who wish to quit and to support temporary abstinence during a hospital admission.
This will be for all acute adult inpatients and to all expectant women and birthing people throughout pregnancy and the post-natal period, using the support of interventions such as brief advice, Carbon Monoxide (CO) monitoring and Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT).
Deliver tobacco harm reduction assessments, advice and support sessions, including advice on stop smoking medications, working within recommended protocols and guidelines.
Ensure a seamless transition to the Stop Smoking in Pregnancy Service (SSIPS) service, adult community stop smoking services, and Fire Service have been completed in a timely manner.
Work with the Public Health Midwife and Tobacco Dependency Specialist Nurse to ensure areas within the hospital have the correct equipment and supplies.
Promote the general health and wellbeing of people who use the service by signposting them to healthy lifestyle advice and support services.
Identify women and birthing people who need risk perception and refer appropriately.
Work with mínimal indirect supervision operating within the assessed level of competence and being accountable for all aspects of own work.
This is a developmental role whereby support and guidance will be provided on all aspects to help the post meet the requirements and ensure the service is delivered
