The Information Governance Team is undergoing a re-structure and an opportunity has arisen for 2 x Information Governance Officers.

You will work closely with the Head of Information Governance/DPO to ensure that Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust meets its legislative and regulatory obligations, and contribute to the delivery of an effective Information Governance service across the organisation.


You will lead on liaison with managers and staff across the Trust to ensure that Records Management Policies and Procedures are developed and implemented as per National legislation and regulation.


You will develop staff training and awareness sessions, review the Trusts Publication Scheme and oversee the Freedom of Information requests handling process to ensure compliance with the statutory time frame.


Previous working knowledge and experience of the Freedom of Information Act 2000, Data Protection Act 2018, Information Governance in practice and UK GDPR will be essential criteria for any applicant.


We require knowledgeable, highly motivated and well organised individuals to work in this busy and dynamic environment to provide advice and guidance on information sharing, Freedom of Information, Data Protection, Confidentiality, Information Security, Data Quality, Records Management and the Trusts Data Security & Protection Toolkit submission.


Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust provides integrated acute and community Healthcare in the West Midlands serving a population of 260,000 residents.

Walsall Manor Hospital houses the full range of district general hospital services. The £170 million development was completed in 2010 and we are continually upgrading.

Construction of the new integrated critical care unit was completed in 2018, extension of a Neonatal Unit and brand new, state of the art Emergency Department is in the process of being completed.

RESPECT - COMPASSION - TEAMWORK - PROFESSIONALISM

  • Professional or management qualification equivalent to degree level or significant experience working in the NHS.
  • Relevant qualifications in Data Protection, Data Processing, Freedom of Information, Records Management or equivalent experience of working in these fields.
  • Experience of developing policies and procedures
  • To act as Line Manager to members of the team (IG Support Officer and FOI Coordinator)
  • A good working knowledge of information governance principles and practices to support incident management and investigation
  • To lead the development and delivery of training and awareness programmes including Freedom of Information, Subject Access, Data Protection Impact Assessments and Learning from Information Incidents.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to produce management reports across the functions of the team.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to identify any new working practices required to deliver a secure and confidential organisation, including supporting and advising on the completion of Data Protection Impact Assessments.
  • Produce literature in line with the IG communication plan to raise awareness with both the Trusts staff and its service users, carers and partner organisations. This may include the development and maintenance of Intranet and Internet sites, leaflets, posters, articles etc.
