Hawkins Steel produces structural steel to the harmonised standard which covers fabricated structural steelwork to BS EN 1090:
Execution Class 2. Experienced fabricators work with mild steel, stainless steel and aluminium.

About the job

The main purpose of this role to carry our welding and fabrication of mild steel components in accordance with approved engineering drawings.

Operate machineries in the steel workshop as and when required.

Reporting to Specialist Fabrication Supervisor

Location Unit 9a, Thorpe Way, Banbury, OX16 4SP - Hawkins 3 and site locations

Key Responsibilities

  • To carry out all fabrication and welding activities as required.
  • To adhere to all Health and Safety standards.
  • To adhere to all Quality Standards including ISO 9001 and UKCA marking of Steel works EN 1090.
  • To operate all machinery and equipment including forklift truck and overhead crane in line with the company's safe operating procedures.
  • To attend site to carry out welding procedures to support Hawkins personnel in steel erection projects as and when required.
  • To assist in steel installations on construction sites and live manufacturing facilities.
  • Any other duties as required by the Specialist Fabrication Supervisors and Steel Director.

Person specification
Experience and knowledge

  • Proven fabrication and welding experience
  • Experience of welding stainless steel and aluminium in both Tig and Mig welding processes
  • Problem solving ability and a positive attitude to drive continual improvements forward
  • Excellent communication skills and a positive attitude towards work, colleagues, customers and suppliers
  • Can demonstrate attention to detail and show initiative
  • Proven fabrication and welding experience
  • Ability to read engineering drawing
  • Flexible attitude to working hours
  • Forklift truck licence
  • OHC licence
Advantageous but not essential

  • Experience in bespoke specialised fabrication tasks/jobs
  • Experience in the operation of guillotines and brake press equipment
  • Experience of working to ISO 9001 and UKCA Quality Standards
  • Full, clean driving licence
  • Warehouse experience
