We are one of the largest manufacturers / suppliers of Structural steel work in the UK, offering our customers a total solution including sitework packages such as Steel erection, pre-cast installation, safety net installation, edge protection and cladding.

All works are predominantly carried out by our directly employed staff.


We are looking to recruit a Health and Safety / Training manager to provide Sustainable Health and Safety Support, Leadership, and improvement across the business.


Reporting to the Senior HSQE Manager, and working closely with All Departmental Managers, the focus of the role will be to manage Health and Safety and ensure compliance with the Company's Health and Safety Strategy.


Key responsibilities -

  • Provide recommendations on how to improve Health & Safety, developing an annual improvement plan.
  • Develop, adopt, and assist in the implementation of the company Health and Safety policies and procedures to ensure the required high standards of safety are maintained across the Business.
  • Take a leading role in planning, coordinating, monitoring, and implementing of H&S policies and procedures, ensuring the required high standards of safety are maintained across the business.
  • Carry out audits to ensure that all operations comply with relevant legislation, company guidelines, standards, and procedures.
  • To assist in developing a positive safety culture across the business.
  • Work closely with Senior HSQE Manager to ensure effective risk assessments and safe working procedures are in place for all Company activities.
  • Follow company procedures for reporting and responding to accidents and dangerous occurrences, to ensure compliance with statutory requirements, and implementing effective corrective action.
  • To carry out site inspections, audits, and toolbox talks as and when required.
  • To assist with third parties as required, including local councils, HSE and the Environment agency.
  • Supporting Departmental Managers in implementing changes through the guidance and training of staff.
  • Will assist in maintaining accreditations such as CHAS, Achilles, RISQS, FORS, ISO 45001, ISO 9001 and ISO 1400
  • Facilitate training of personnel on Health & Safety related matters to ensure they are informed and act responsibly to protect both themselves and others.
  • Will maintain the Training matrix along with all plant and lifting equipment registers.
  • Proactively encourage the reporting of near misses, unsafe acts, and unsafe conditions to drive responsibility for improvement to all employees.
  • Maintain records of safety audits and inspections, accidents and incidents and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Improve employee engagement at all levels on all Health, Safety related matters, to influence change and promote a positive proactive culture.
  • Will chair employee H&S committee meetings.
  • Carry out new employee inductions.
The successful applicant will have a hands-on approach to guiding and encouraging others to carry out their roles correctly. A flexible attitude to working hours will be required and experience of a Manufacturing / Fabrication facility is desirable.

The ability to work under pressure and have confidence in their decision making. Be able to demonstrate excellent problem
- solving skills, possess good inter-personal skills, and be able to prioritise a demanding and varied workload. Excellent planning, Organisational, and time management skills are essential, as is NEBOSH Certification, IOSH Membership and suitable advisory or managerial experience.

A Driving Licence and CSCS Card are also essential.

The successful applicant will be an excellent communicator at all levels, with a pro-active and pragmatic approach to work.
