Description

Do you have experience of assessing and case managing young people who are at risk of and vulnerable to engaging in offending behaviour or at risk of exploitation? If so, then now is an exciting time to join Slough Children First as we look to recruit an Exploitation and Youth Justice Service Practitioner.


As an Exploitation and Youth Justice Service Practitioner, you'll carry out direct work with children, young people and families, manage a case load of children and young people, and develop links with other agencies to provide support, guidance and opportunities to young people.


You'll safeguard children and young people at risk of extra familial risk and harm by having a specific lead within the team and facilitating in the creation, delivery and evaluation of intervention programmes.


Main Accountabilities:


  • Work directly with children, young people and their families, carers and/or guardians who have been assessed as being at risk of offending or at risk of exploitation within the local community
  • Manage a caseload of children and young people in line with national standards and other guidance and legislation relating to children and young people linked to exploitation
  • Support group intervention programmes
  • Have a specific lead within the team and facilitate in the creation, delivery and evaluation of intervention programmes which safeguard children and young people at risk of extra familial risk and harm
  • Keep accurate, clear records using relevant software systems, contributing to agreed performance indicators and producing relevant data as required by the management information system of the team
  • Participate and attend team meetings, risk panels and other multi agency meetings associated with the risk management of children and young people
  • Contribute to the team's duty systems as appropriate
  • Develop links with other agencies, particularly in respect of prolific offenders and young people acting in an antisocial manner, providing support, guidance and opportunities for young people both within the Exploitation and Youth Justice team and in the local community
  • Work flexible and some unsociable hours including weekends according to the team's requirements in order to provide the most effective staff cover
  • Any other duties required by your line manager that are commensurate with the post

Person Specification:


Education, Training and Experience
At least two years experience of working with young people and their families

Educated to a degree level, preferably within Youth and/or Criminal Justice or evidence of continuing professional development

Current knowledge of legislation, guidance and regulations relating to contextual safeguarding, exploitation, and missing children
(essential)
Experience of working in Youth Justice Field
(desirable)

General and Specific Knowledge
Experience of delivering intervention to children in assessment of needs, case planning and/or case management of complex cases
(desirable)
Proven track record and experience of working with children, young people and families with complex needs including hard to reach young people

Knowledge of the risk and protective factors as they relate to young people who exposed to extra familial harm
(essential)
Commitment and ability to work in a multi-agency team
(essential)
Ability to keep accurate, clear and concise records, including the ability to analyse information using software systems both electronic and manual
(essential)
Experience of undertaking assessments of risk and need using assessment tools
(essential)
Ability to devise and implement individual and group work programmes
(essential)
Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills
(essential)
Experience of organising own workload, prioritising and ensuring work is delivered on time and to the standards required

Good IT skills to include but not be limited to: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook), and electronic casefile management systems including social care databases

Full driving licence and access to a car on a daily basis

Understanding of and commitment to the need for sensitivity and confidentiality
