An Estates Maintenance Craftsperson Assistant plays a key role in the Estates Engineering Maintenance Services.

The individual will support the Estates maintenance team in the delivery of maintenance programmes that will contribute to the Trusts objectives been carried out in a safe, cost effective, efficient manner and compliant with legislation, Health Technical Memorandums (HTM) and good practice.


The post holder will undertake works relating to the maintenance and repairs of Trust properties, equipment, grounds & gardens ensuring compliance with Statutory requirements, HTM's, Trust Policies and procedures to ensure a clean, safe and functional environment for patients, public and staff to support the delivery of patient care.

The post is site-based but you may be required to work on other Trust sites as necessary


The post holder will:


  • Be a member of a small group of maintenance staff who manage and operate complex technical systems and processes across the Trust, ensuring compliance with Trust standards, standard operating procedures, policies and procedures and legislation.
Be appointed to named competent roles in keeping with requirements laid down in Hospital

  • Technical Memorandums (HTM) and Health and Safety documentation.
  • Support the Team Leader with the implementation of planned, reactive and routine maintenance.

  • Be responsible for the implementation and sign off of documentation along with the responsibility of asset management and technical support for the Estate across all trades according to competence and skill level and allocation from the Team Leader and Estates Managers.
  • Complete data entry into paper and electronic systems (e.g. the completion of all job dockets, asset management details, time sheets and stock sheets).
  • Have a good general education and general experience of engineering trades and will undertake on the job training or other training away from the place of work as dictated by the requirements of the role
  • Where possible the " On call " rota for gritting between the months of October and March will be covered on a voluntary basis, however, the post holder may be required to provide cover during periods of operational pressures such as staff shortages and adverse weather conditions. With the exception of staff based at Goole where oncall will be a requirement of the post.
  • May be required to support oncall duties during periods of operational pressures to help deliver the estates maintenance and repairs function, commensurate with the duties outlined in this job description.   • The post holder must have a proactive approach to a wide range of work of other trades outside their core trade skills, and be able to undertake work in a safe and effective manner, complying with all relevant safety legislation and Estates Department safe working procedures on all works undertaken.
  • The post holder shall manage and implement statutory and mandatory requirements for all tasks carried out
  • Must be experienced in fault diagnosis and have the ability to take the necessary remedial action where appropriate considering a range of options and safety issues to effect repairs
  • Assist with completion of planned preventative maintenance tasks which will include lifting and maintaining both heavy and delicate equipment
  • Identify parts required for replacement of defective components and equipment on major items of engineering plant
  • To be appointed as Competent Person as required by the organisation to execute a range of controlled operations of specialist services in accordance with the HTM's under the guidance of the Estates Officers.
  • Manage and plan own work activities without supervision and assist the Team Leader as required to implement effective labour management
