National Highways, formerly Highways England, have named Amey Consulting as a Design partner to support the delivery of the largest and most comprehensive renewals programme that National Highways have ever launched.
The £3.6bn Scheme Delivery Framework (SDF) enables National Highways to procure Design and Construction services across the Strategic Road Network for the next 6 years.
The Role
As a result of this framework win, we are recruiting a
C-ITS/ Technology Designer.
In this role you will work within the Technology Design team and alongside our client, National Highways.
As a Designer you will provide effective support and assistance to your Senior Designers on a variety of highways schemes whilst also guiding junior colleagues.
As a
C-ITS/ Technology Designer at Amey Consulting, you'll see your work from early design to the very end result, and every project will be different from the last.

In a typical week you will:
- Drive effective health and safety practices within your team
- Liaise with the Client and our Community partners to ensure solutions that are developed are suitable for buildability and maintainability
- Provide support to the Senior Designer/Engineer within the design team on various design duties including:
- Surveys/Inspections
- Feasibility and other technical reports
- Planning, programming and cost estimation
- Design production
- Produce design schedules
- Review and amend design drawings
- Produce Specifications
- Support development of Graduate Engineers and Technicians
- Work to programme to deliver specified designs on time
- Prepare technical reports (eg Feasibility/Options Reports, Assessment Reports and other technical reports)
- Ensure innovation and best practice is highlighted and adopted where practicable
- Ensure compliance with all relevant technical standards
- Carry out site surveys, inspections and supervision of junior colleagues on site
- Keep up to date with your own personal development to ensure the natural growth of the team and progression with your chosen professional institution
We want to hear from you if:
- Developed experience and expertise within
C-ITS/ Technology engineering, probably gained in a Assistant Designer/Assistant Engineer role or equivalent - Knowledge of design processes and procedures relevant to the
C-ITS/ Technology engineering discipline - An ability to produce or oversee the production of technically sound
C-ITS/ Technology engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements working under supervision - Experience in undertaking project related tasks associated with health, safety and welfare, e.g. Construction (Design and Management) Regulations
- Understanding of technical governance procedures within a consulting engineering environment
- You are happy to agree a programme of actions towards successful achievement of industry recognised qualifications, ie Incorporated or Chartered Engineer with a relevant body
- Good commercial awareness and knowledge of budgets and programmes
