NUH Life Fertility Services is a combined clinical and laboratory service offering male and female investigations and treatment for all aspects of infertility.
We also provide a regional sperm cryopreservation service for men at risk of infertility due to cancer treatments, alongside recruitment and storage of sperm donors for use in fertility treatments.
We are a small team of clinicians, nurses, scientists and admin staff who strive to provide a warm and friendly patient-centred service.
We are looking for someone to join our team who can uphold our values and be the first point of contact in our clinic - a welcoming face and voice to our patients.
You need to be highly organised, reliable and punctual, able to multi-task and remain calm under pressure.Most importantly you need to be able to demonstrate empathy and understanding to everyone who needs our assistance in achieving a much longed for family.
Healthcare experience in a similar role would be a huge advantage, but we are willing to consider anyone who excels at face to face customer service and enjoys working with people.
Main duties of the job
You will need to be able to work 30hrs over 5 days (Mon-Friday), there is some flexibility in working hours but ideally we are looking for someone to work between the hours of 9.30 and 5pm to meet our service needs.
Due to the sensitivity of the role, you will need to be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of confidentiality issues.

Detailed job description and main responsibilitiesOne of the main responsibilities of the receptionist is to greet service users in a courteous and efficient manner. Ensure clinics are prepared and able to run smoothly.
You will be answering telephone calls and deal appropriately with highly sensitive enquiries, in a timely and confidential way.
You will also use electronic booking systems, which need to be kept up-to-date with accurate information detailing appointments, the outcome of the appointment and patient demographic details at all times.
Training & Qualifications
Essential criteria
- To be educated with at least 5 pass grades GCSE's including English ('A' to 'C') or a suitable equivalent.
- NVQ level 2 in administration/customer services or willingness to undertake.

- Previous experience of providing administrative and reception support to a team dealing with the public, by telephone and in person.
- Demonstrates understanding of patient / client confidentiality.
- Experience in data entry and competent use of Excel databases to be able to enter test results/information accurately and precisely.
- Experience using hospital clinic patient booking systems including choose and book.
- Experience of a similar role in an NHS/healthcare setting.
Essential criteria
- Demonstrate clear and effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to liaise with patients/clients in a professional, caring and considerate manner in person and by the telephone.
- Maintain confidentiality and sensitivity when communicating with patients whilst dealing with topics of a personal and sensitive nature.
- Uses correct grammar and spelling.
- Ability to deal with patients who present with inappropriate behaviour.

- Ability to understand the importance of instructions and written procedures
- Ability to use judgemental skills and decision making on a daily basis and use judgement of when to refer issues to a more senior member of staff.
- Ability to work using own initiative within remit of the role.

- Ability to prioritise and organise own workload to strict timescales within the working day to a high standard under the direction of the Department Manager.
- Able to concentrate in a very busy working environment and manage frequent interruptions leading to a change in priorities.
