Description

Teaching Assistants or Higher Level Teaching Assistants or Teachers

We are currently looking to recruit three experienced teaching staff to provide 2:1 educational support for an 8-year-old child who will be educated outside of a school setting, which is due to his complex health care needs requiring specialist support.

This little boy has an undiagnosed genetic condition causing both medical and physical complexities, as well as a diagnosis of Autism. The successful applicants will be trained to deal with the child's medical needs. He is unable to communicate verbally, however support will be given by parents so that applicants know how best to understand his needs. Currently the family are learning BSL (British Sign Language) and it is hoped that the child will also become familiar with this way of communicating.

Interviews will take place at the new educational setting, which is already in place, so that applicants can view their prospective workplace.

Hours (Term Time Only)

The working day will be 10:00am - 2:00pm and will consist of delivering education during term time on Wednesday Thursday and Friday between 11:00 am and 1:00pm.

There will also be one hour before and one hour after to provide wraparound support.

This will include escorting the child in a taxi from his home address and then accompanying him to the venue to deliver his education as well as accompanying the child to external provisions.

The return journey will again be by taxi from the provision at 1:00 pm to escort the child home.

It is proposed that the three employees will work on a rota basis, which would look something like the following (using A, B & C to denote each employee):

Wednesday A & B

Thursday B & C

Friday C & A

Rate of Pay

- £15.10 per hour.

  • Holidays are 5.6 weeks per annum prorata and would need to be taken during the school holiday weeks.
  • Any outofpocket expenses will be met by the employer, this will be discussed at interview.

Employment Checks

  • You will be required to pass background checks by the Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS), cost to be met by the employer.
  • References will be sought when you are offered a position.
  • If your own car is used during the course of this employment, it must be insured for business use.

Educational Duties & Brief Overview of Responsibilities

  • Deliver education, therapies and alternative provisions according to EHCP. The significantly modified curriculum has been broken down into very small steps and the timetable and planning has already been prepared and will just need to be delivered.
  • Constant supervision that ensures any signs of distress or ill health can be identified by an adult and responded to appropriately.
  • Escort the child from his home address to the educational setting and return him at the end of the day, this is by taxi provided by the local authority.
  • Keep accurate daily records of each day, including transport and delivery of education and medical interventions.
  • Take the child to alternative provisions already in place.

Qualifications

  • Teaching qualifications or Teaching Assistant/Higher-Level Teaching Assistant qualifications.
  • Experience of working as a Teaching Assistant, Higher-Level Teaching Assistant or Teacher.
  • Experience of working in a Special Educational Needs School is desirable but not essential.
  • Experience of working with disabled children with a special educational need would be an advantage.
  • An understanding of Autism would be an advantage.

Healthcare Needs
These will be fully discussed at interview; including how the full training will be provided.
