REPORTS TO:
Practice Business Manager





HOURS:
As per contract


Job summary:


Working under the direct supervision of the Practice Business Manager, and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols.


Job Specifications:


  • Reporting any known defects to appliances, damaged furniture / equipment and any other potential hazards to the Operations Manager, who will advise accordingly.
  • Assisting in the general repair and maintenance of the Practice both externally and internally to promote effective operation and service.
  • Supervising the maintenance of the Practice's grounds to an acceptable standard in order to promote a pleasant and safe environment for Staff and Patients.
  • Carrying out decoration as and when required in order to maintain the standard of the Practice.
  • Testing the fire alarm system, and log results, weekly. Checking call points, fire exits, doorretaining devices and fire emergency lights, as specified in Practice procedures.
  • Ensuring all ventilation units and lights are kept clean. Replace any defective light bulbs / diffusers.
  • Responsibility for the general oversight of the heating, lighting and use of water at the Practice.
  • Maintaining a "Maintenance Book" in which defects are recorded by Staff Members.
  • Use this book to affect repairs / replacements.
  • Assisting / supervising with deliveries to the Practice. Monitoring delivered goods closely. Cultivating grassed areas, flower beds, hedges, shrubs, and borders
  • Carrying out landscaping duties including drainage and clearance of pathways
  • Clearing leaves around the site
  • Carrying out minor repairs around the site
  • Helping with guttering and gully clearance

Work Experience:


  • General maintenance knowledge / experience e.g. minor electrical, decorating, plumbing, joinery work etc.
  • Previous experience working within grounds care and maintenance
  • General plant knowledge
  • Competent working to Health and Safety and COSHH regulations
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines
  • Ability to manage pressure and conflicting demands, and prioritise tasks
  • Ability to organise own time and workload
  • Willingness to receive training on current Health and Safety / EHO issues
  • Satisfactory DBS

  • Ensure building security have thorough knowledge of doors/windows/alarm.

Health & Safety:

The post-holder will assist in promoting and maintaining their own and others' health, safety and security as defined in the practice health & safety policy, the practice health & safety manual, and the practice infection control policy and published procedures


This will include:

  • Using personal security systems within the workplace according to practice guidelines.
  • Identifying the risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks.
  • Making effective use of training to update knowledge and skills.
  • Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way and free from hazards.
  • Actively reporting of health and safety hazards and infection hazards immediately when recognised.
  • Keeping own work areas and general / patient areas generally clean, assisting in the maintenance of general standards of cleanliness consistent with the scope of the job holder's role.
  • Undertaking periodic infection control training (minimum annually).
  • Reporting potential risks identified.
