The post holder will be a specialist resource in the field of antenatal & newborn screening and diagnosis, assisting and advising other health professionals in the care of women undergoing testing.
They will lead the implementation and evaluation of systems to ensure that every pregnant woman and newborn baby is offered all appropriate NHS funded screening programmes offered by the Trust ,that meet national standards; linking with regionally agreed quality assurance mechanisms.
To be responsible for leading the three Newborn screening programmes (NIPE, Hearing and Newborn Blood Spot Screening) and support the BCG and other immunisation programmes in Swindon.
To act as the professional lead for the day to day management, evaluation and quality assurance of the screening process including the provision of digital screening information, the screening procedures and any onward referral.
To work closely with the Risk and Governance team and participate in investigations of antenatal and newborn screening incidents and share learning from incidents and changes in practice with staff.
To operate and monitor all failsafe system to identify, as early as possible, mothers and babies that may have missed or where screening results are incomplete across the antenatal and newborn screening and vaccination programmes.
To liaise with NHS England (NHSE) and Quality Assurance (QA), by participating in national Quality Assurance processes, reporting on key performance indicators (KPIs),risks and audits.

To lead the Antenatal and Newborn Screening service and establish an infrastructure that will deliver a level of service which is equitable, evidence based and consistent with the recommendations and standards of the UK National Screening Committee (UK NSC)

To work collaboratively with the education lead to ensure that health professionals involved in ANNB screening keep up to date with nationally approved training programmes, maintain professional registration where appropriate and comply with safeguarding requirements.
To provide expert advice, guidance and support to all healthprofessionals involved in antenatal and newborn screening programme and be conversant with the recommendations and standards of the UK National Screening Committee.
To provide expert advice on antenatal and newborn screening to women and their families offering support, guidance and counselling as required.
To work with midwifery and neonatal unit managers to ensure that there is a consistent approach to antenatal and newborn screening in all clinical areas and the community setting.
To coordinate of the following programmes including screening and on-going care:
Sickle cell and Thalassaemia linked antenatal and newborn screening programme,
Downs syndrome, Edwards and Patau's first trimester screening
First trimester fetal anomalies - including Spina Bifida, Gastroschisis Infectious diseases screening in pregnancy
Newborn blood spot screening (NBBS)
Newborn infant physical examination (NIPE)
Newborn hearing screening
Immunisation programmes including BCG and Hepatitis B for
newborns
Genetic screening in pregnancy
|O versight of Low Papp-a screening follow up (SBLv3)
Managing screening inci
