    Welcome Desk Volunteer

    Saffron Walden Museum is one of the oldest purpose-built museums in the country.

    We are looking for friendly and welcoming Welcome Desk Volunteers to provide a good customer care and equal treatment for visitors of all ages, ethnicities and backgrounds. As the public face of the museum and visitor's first point of contact, desk volunteers play an essential role in delivering a positive experience.

    • Issuing tickets and providing information on facilities as needed.
    • Guiding visitors through our galleries with suggested routes.
    • Highlighting special activities for children and families where relevant.
    • Answering enquiries and ensuring equal access to information.
    • Managing the till and shop.

    Additionally, we welcome volunteers who can provide ad-hoc cover for regular shift volunteers during planned absences such as holidays or appointments.

    Key Requirements

    Able to work effectively as part of a team and demonstrate good communication skills.

    Shifts and Schedule

    Volunteer shifts vary across weekdays and weekends:

    Mondays: closed except bank holidays (2-5pm)

    Tuesdays-Fridays: 10am-12:30pm/12:30-2:30pm/2:30-5pm

    Saturdays: 10am-12:30pm/12:30-2:30pm/2:30-5pm

    Sundays: 2-5pm
