About us
Caring in Bristol's vision is creating a city empowered to solve homelessness.

We work in imaginative and creative ways with people experiencing or a risk of homelessness, with the public and with community partners to bring about lasting change in Bristol and beyond.


Bristol Goods is a food-based project that provides members access to affordable nutritious food to supplement their weekly food shop.

In addition, we provide signposting & access to advice to members on a range of issues from housing to management of rising utility bills.

Our service is targeted at single adult households at risk of housing difficulties that can lead to homelessness.

We currently have 2 food clubs based in South Bristol and one based at our office in St Paul's, with another launching in the city centre imminently.

Bristol Goods also hosts a monthly social eating event in Hartcliffe where we provide a free meal and space for local community members to connect with each other and access our services.

The workload for the role is split in approximately the proportions:

~60% of the role Food logistics and coordination

  • Support the Bristol Goods Project Manager to manage the supply and distribution of food to ensure an adequate mix of fresh and ambient food is available to our service users each week. Includes driving the Caring in Bristol van so a licence is essential
  • Coordinate and monitor the stock of food, ensuring there's always sufficient stock levels to cover all the food clubs
  • Coordinate the weekly Fareshare delivery and sorting/preparation of food
  • Support the Project Manager to uphold food safety management within the organisation, ensuring our food storeroom is adequately clean and organized at all times
  • Work with the Volunteering Coordinator to plan out volunteer shifts to support and develop Bristol Goods operations
  • Train, brief and manage Bristol Goods volunteers to ensure they understand how to carry out their role safely, and enjoy their experience
  • Supervise the onsite running of the food clubs on a Rota basis with other Caring in Bristol staff
  • Provide support to the Bristol Goods Project Manager to organise and run the monthly social eating community meal in South Bristol, and potential additional similar events
  • Form working relationships with our food suppliers and food sector contacts, and seek out potential new opportunities that could benefit the resilience and breadth of Caring in Bristol's food offer
  • Where possible and appropriate, offer support to Caring at Christmas and Youth Shelter projects with regard to the food

~30% of the role Food Club Member Coordination

  • Interacting with members and signposting them to relevant services within Caring in Bristol, in the local community, and city wide
  • Uphold the safety and safeguarding of members in the delivery and development of the Bristol Goods service
  • Record members' attendance and engagement on our database in line with GDPR regulations
  • Review monitoring data on a regular basis with the Project Manager to ensure progress and identify members requiring additional support
  • Supporting the Project Manager and Head of Operations with evidencing, monitoring and evaluation of our work, and establishing a culture of learning through doing.

~10% of the role Other Responsibilities

  • Organisational support work and development, including; attendance at team meetings, safeguarding reviews and participating in the volunteer strategy group
  • Follow Caring in Bristol policies and procedures and observe our Code of Conduct.
  • Actively participate in and attend supervisions, annual appraisal processes and
identified training.

  • Promote the aims and objectives of the charity and present a positive image of it through good public relations, communications with visitors, young people, guests, people who use our services and the local community.

Personal Specification

  • Full driving license (driving the van for collections and drop offs is key to the role)
  • Experience of delivering successful logistics/operations as part of a team
  • Experience of working in hospitality, events, logistics or similar
  • Understanding of the importance of safety and food hygiene
  • Experience of working with or managing a team of volunteers
  • Experience of working in partnership with other groups and organisations in innovative ways to achieve social impact
  • Established (or willingness to develop) knowledge of relevant support services in Bristol
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to build rapport quickly and maintain effective working relationships with a range of stakeholders
  • Solid IT skills including the Microsoft Office suite, including Excel, and experience of using databases
  • Organised approach including consistency, accuracy, and an eye for detail
  • A passion to change Bristol for the better

Salary:
£25,564.00-£30,584.00 per year
