£30,375 - £34,827 per annum

Applications are invited from a highly motivated individual to join the Learning and Development Department working as a Driving Instructor within the Driving Training Unit based at Hethersett Old Hall, Norfolk.


Driving Training Unit takes pride in their cleanliness and roadworthiness of vehicles and these standards will be kept alongside accurate record keeping and administration to support each driving course.


This role requires high standards of behaviour, dress and performance as you will be acting as a role model for the organisational values.

You must be able to motivate your learners and meet high organisational standards being flexible and resilient to unpredictable changes in schedules.


The role will pre-dominantly be based at Hethersett Old Hall but you may be required to work across Norfolk and Suffolk Constabularies to meet the demand of driver training, as may be reasonably required.


Job advert (including person specification)

It is essential that applicants meet the following criteria:

  • Qualified to Police Advanced Driver level or successful acquisition within 12 months of appointment
  • Previous experience as a driver trainer
  • Be the holder of an unrestricted Category C1 and D1 driving licence or successful acquisition once appointed
  • Meet the DVLA Group Two higher medical standards in all respects
  • Have a personal attribute of developing and contributing to effective team work
  • Proven ability to work with the minimum of supervision and with initiative and resourcefulness
  • Proven oral and written communication skills, with the ability to speak clearly, concisely and inspire confidence where appropriate
  • Ability to travel to work at other locations as required

It is desirable that applicants meet the following criteria:

  • Have, or have had, an effective Police operational background at Advance level
  • Qualified in the Management of Police Pursuits at Tactical level
  • Qualified as a Police advanced rider
  • Qualified as a Driving Standards Agency Approved Driving Instructor
Hours of work are 37 per week Monday to Friday. These posts are offered on a permanent basis.


Consideration will be given to whether the post can be delivered on either a part time or job share basis, in line with the organisational requirements of this role.
