About the team?
Working as a key part of the HR senior leadership team, you will partner directly with specific business areas, lead an established team of four HR Business Partners and provide senior direction for the HR directorate,


This team partners with senior stakeholders to understand each business area, drive the key people initiatives, problem solve and challenge.


About the job?
Reporting to the Deputy HR Director, you will assume responsibility for driving the People Agenda across the business.

Leading on key initiatives and programs including talent and development planning, inclusive culture, customer experience focus, inspiring leaders, agile organisation and wellbeing; you will partner with GWR Directors to ensure our people and considered during key business decision making, as well as lead a team of HR Business Partners.


Your main responsibilities will be:


  • Develop and drive directorate level people plans across the business to embed the overall people strategy
  • Maintain strong working relationships with GWR Directors for all business areas
  • Work closely with the Learning & Development team to proactively develop leadership skills across the business directorates
  • Positively influence and drive a diverse and inclusive culture through established initiatives and coaching directors and senior managers on development opportunities, and talent and succession planning
  • As part of the HR Leadership team, drive delivery of key strategy including:
  • Inclusion & Diversity
  • Investors in People
  • People & Organisation
  • Employee benefits
  • Lead talent discussions to identify and plan against talent for the future both internally and externally
  • Analyse and leverage HR analytics and data insights to develop and execute GWR's People Strategy
  • Line management and people development responsibility for a team of HR Business Partners

You'll need to be:


  • A proven HR professional with experience in coaching and developing high performing teams
  • Able to influence and partner at a senior level within a complex organisation; be comfortable and flexible in your approach to deal with ambiguity, competing and changing priorities
  • Demonstrate your ability to manage and coach Director level stakeholders and large teams both directly and indirectly
  • Able to build meaningful and collaborative working relationships
  • Comfortable to positively challenge and influence at a senior level

As a minimum, you will need to have:

  • Degree level or equivalent experience with CIPD chartered membership
  • Working knowledge and understanding of strategic HR including talent and succession, performance management, inclusion & diversity and using HR data
  • Worked at a Senior level within a HR environment

About the location?
Anywhere on the GWR Network, the nature of the role requires travel across our network.


Working Pattern?


Flexible, however meetings and most activity takes place across Monday - Friday, both virtually and in person dependant on business area and stakeholder.


Additional Information?
This role is a fixed term role for 12 months to cover maternity leave.
