Salary £28,065.24 per annum + benefits

Seetec Recruitment Solutions are hiring Detention Custody Officers for their Client based in Manston, Kent.


As part of the Recruitment process, they will be running 2 Assessment days on Tuesday 7th March and Thursday 23rd March at Discovery Park, Sandwich CT13 where ID checks, Vetting, a group exercise and short interviews will take place.

To be considered for this cohort, you will need to be able to attend on the 7th/23rd March if you are successfully shortlisted and you must be able to meet the following criteria:

  • Must hold a Valid Passport and have all Right to work documents.
A passport is ESSENTIAL as this is required for clearance by the home office

  • Lived in the UK for the last 3 years+
  • Not been out of the country for 6months + within the last 3 years
  • Available to start new employment on the 17th April 2023 if successful
  • Not have any planned annual leave during your first 5 weeks of employment due to training purposes

You will need to remain open-minded, have the ability to deal with challenging situations whilst demonstrating the core values of being Caring, Transparent, Collaborative and most importantly, being accountable.


The DCO will provide a stress and worry-free environment for those, who are likely in the first 24 hours of detention to demonstrate erratic behaviour.

As a Detention Custody Officer, you will accommodate those from everchanging populations and a variety of backgrounds.

Within the role, you will be working in an environment that provides an Empathetic trauma-informed security service. You will also be responsible for the individuals whilst they are being interviewed.


The Responsibilities within this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Working with our operational team to create a safe, secure and friendly environment where detainees can access support and services
  • Build strong relationships with detainees to ensure they feel supported, guided in the right direction and understood whilst in our care
  • Ensure that all detainees are able to communicate with our partners and receive help and support; whether this be medical, welfare, faith or cultural provisions they require
  • Operate regular transfer to allow for the Home Office processing of asylum and immigration claims

Skills and Experience


If you are successful in the recruitment process, your role will also involve completing a 4/5-week initial training course which includes de-escalation and Control & Restraint training.

You would need to be prepared to restrain someone in detention as a last resort.

These roles are permanent, full-time positions.


The site operates 24/7, so shifts cover all operational hours, working an average of 40 hours per week on a 14 week rolling shift pattern.

Your Shift Patterns will be made up of a combination of the following:

Early shift: 07:30 to 16:00

  • Late shift: 14:00 to 22:30
A shift: 08:00 to 22:00

Night shift: 20:00 to 08:00

**DCO's would work a rolling shift pattern of: **AAL or AAE for a number of weeks. Night shifts are scheduled as 7 nights on, 7 days/nights off every 6 to 7 weeks.
