Job Description Summary:

The Welder will be located at HPC New Build Project in Somerset UK as part of a team supporting the Turbine Generator Shaft line erection.

The installation consists of 2 x 1750 MW Arabelle Steam Turbines & Generators with world class execution done Safely, with the right Quality and on time key principles of the project.


The Welder will be responsible for joining various components related to metalwork or piping and will operate appropriate equipment / tooling to assemble mechanical structures or parts with a great deal of precision.

The Welder must have the ability to carry out various welding tasks including preparation / execution as per welding procedure / written instruction within applicable safety and quality requirements.


Essential Function & Responsibilities

  • Follow Appropriate GE Policies, Procedures and complete necessary documentation
  • Ability to take ownership / responsibility for both quality and safety whilst in the workplace
  • Follow written instructions provided on engineering documents such as weld procedure specifications (WPS) and drawings to ensure quality
  • Experience in large scale Power Station construction / overhauls or other heavy industries
  • Experience in efficiently operating the following equipment including but not limited to the following,
  • Experience in efficiently joining materials including but not limited to the following,
  • Experience in efficiently joining product types plate and pipe of various sizes including but not limited to the following,
  • Comfortable using mechanical cutting tools such as grinders and Tungsten sharpening machines
  • Ability to safely operate and have knowledge of mobile heating torches such as propane
  • Work under strict Foreign Material Exclusion rules

Qualifications / Requirements**- Level 2 Welding Apprenticeship or an equivalent Apprenticeship in a Welding discipline or Level 2 Diploma in a welding discipline

  • Minimum of 3 years experience as a Welder in a relevant industry
  • BS EN ISO 9606 Coded Welding Qualifications
