We're looking for an experienced
Fixed Asset Accountant to join our Business Partnering team on a
fixed term basis for 12 months.

You'll be based from our new head office in Basingstoke with flexibility to combine home and office working to ensure a positive work / life balance.


The role
Sovereign Housing is one of the largest landlords in England, with fixed assets in excess of £4bn. It is essential that we account for these assets accurately and in line with current accounting regulations.

This is a fundamental responsibility of our CFOand this role is vital to ensure that all processes and recording of fixed assets are carried out.

Reporting to our Group Financial Controller, you'll be responsible for:

  • Accurate and timely recording of all fixed assets owned by Sovereign, using the Assets 4000 and Agresso asset registers; complying with legislation and accounting policies including component accounting
  • Supporting in the production of annual statutory accounts for all Sovereign companies, liaising with external auditors working to agreed project deadlines
  • Providing cost analysis in support of the calculation of depreciation, amortisation and surplus on disposals
  • Supporting on key business projects, including budget preparation, benchmarking and KPI data and process improvements for Sovereign
  • Facilitating the completion of all monthly balance sheet reconciliations, coordinating with the wider team to ensure reconciliations are completed on time

What we need from you


Ideally, you'll be a Qualified Accountant (ACA, CIMA, ACCA or equivalent post graduate accounting qualification) with demonstrable experience in a fixed asset accounting position.

Any experience from within housing would be beneficial or from a large organisationwith a varied fixed asset register.


You'll also:

  • Have a strong, clear working knowledge of processes and controls surrounding Fixed Asset Register accounting, additions, disposals, and components, including detailed book value analysis
  • Have an understanding of processes and controls around budgeting, and forecasting of depreciation and amortisation, including detailed management information analysis
  • Be highly numerate and computer literate with strong Microsoft skills covering Word and Excel
Knowledge of Unit4 (Agresso) Accounting and Asset 4000 systems would be advantageous though training will be provided.
