What's involved ?

On a daily basis we have numerous patients discharged from the hospital, some of these patients will have been admitted with infectious conditions that have meant that the patient has been isolated in side rooms to ensure no cross infections occur amongst other admissions on that ward, these types of patients are barrier nursed.

Once a patient that has been barrier nursed is discharged it is the decant teams that will go and terminally clean these rooms to ensure they are clinically clean for the next person to be admitted and that all surfaces are free from infection to eliminate cross contamination.

Decant teams usually work in a pair to support each other as when doing a decant clean all walls, floors, beds, bathrooms and curtains will require attending to, we have an SOP (standard operating procedure) that we follow to give you a step by step guide on how to do this safely and within policies and procedures that we follow guided by our infection control team.
