The role requires a balance of technical expertise and significant experience of IT service delivery aligned to excellent leadership, interpersonal and management skills.

Main duties include....

  • Leading and delivering a firstclass Digital Technology Service
  • Lead and manage all teams that are responsible for provision and support of the IT service (Service Desk, End User Compute, Asset Management, Infrastructure)
  • Create, review and manage IT processes to ensure they are effective, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Provide leadership, ownership and accountability for IT service delivery, ensuring that an ITIL operating model is implemented, and industry best practice is followed.
  • Ensure that comprehensive Incident Management, Problem Management and Change Management procedures and capability are in place, with appropriate monitoring and auditing to ensure compliance.
  • Strategic planning of future IT requirements


Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust provides a first class integrated acute and community healthcare service within the West Midlands serving a population of 260,000 residents.

It employs more than 4,000 staff with a combined total income of just over £220m.


IT services are provided to multiple acute and community locations, primary care services with Walsall, and Black Country and West Birmingham ICB.


  • To provide direction and leadership for the Digital Technology service
  • Overall responsibility for the Service Desk, End User Compute and Infrastructure teams. Preparing and allocating work plans, policies and procedures and ensuring the teams have the tools and training required to provide effective IT Services.
  • Have overall managerial responsibility for staff within Digital Technology ensuring appraisal and mandatory training are compliant.
  • Provide expert professional advice and guidance at all levels, enabling Walsall Healthcare Trusts to exploit the benefits of Digital Technology solutions fully.
  • Monitor and manage incidents and requests, ensuring that work is completed within agreed service levels and that customers are kept informed of progress and reports are generated to inform performance and escalations.
  • Monitor and maintain performance of staff using agreed tools, dashboards and reports
  • Monitor and maintain IT assets ensuring they are managed in accordance with agreed processes throughout their lifecycle including agreed safe and secure disposal processes.
  • Lifecycle management of IT service and technology ensuring appropriate refresh programs are in place, funded and delivered.
  • Drive new ideas to improve on all services within the team by way of digital transformation, technology or procedural improvements
  • Responsible for the research and development of technical products and services with potential for offering service improvement and, where appropriate, the evaluation and justification of costs and benefits.
  • Managing risks associated with IT systems and services and ensuring changes to products, services or systems are controlled and coordinated
  • Ensuring that service components have the capacity and performance to meet current and planned business needs.
  • Liaise with external organisation's and attend local and regional meetings and events, enabling the development and maintenance of robust working relationships.
