THE DEPARTMENT
The Porters' Lodge is the central hub for the College community and is staffed 24 hours a day,

365 days of the year.

The team consists of 1 Head Porter, 1 Deputy Head Porter, 2 Senior Porters and 10 Duty

Porters.


THE ROLE

SALARY & HOURS


£ 25,310.18 per annum The shift pattern is rotational over 10 weeks

Plus an Attendance bonus scheme paid in with 3 periods of the pattern, consisting of 6

two instalments.

These are only payable work days: 2 ET, 2 LT, 2 NT followed by 4 Rests

after the satisfactory completion of the days (RD):
probationary period. Early Turn (ET) 07:00 - 15:00

Late Turn:
(LT) 13:00 - 21:30

Hours of work are on a Rota Shift Pattern Night Turn (NT) 21:30 - 07:00

averaging 36.5 hours per week.

Weekends and Bank Holidays are included in ATTENDANCE BONUS

Main


Responsibilities:


General Duties:


  • Responsibility for welcoming visitors to the College and for ensuring that all enquiries are
dealt with as quickly, efficiently and courteously as possible.

  • Responsibility for handling sensitive and confidential materials and information.
Confidentiality at all times.

  • Handling financial transactions undertaken by the Porters Lodge including the sale of
College items, payments for guest room accommodation.

  • Responsibility for ensuring the Porters Lodge has all the information necessary to enable
all enquiries to be answered.

  • Handling correspondence on a daily basis (sorting the post/answering the telephone)
dealing with any ad hoc enquiries which come into the Porters Lodge.

  • Dealing efficiently with lost and found property.
  • Hoisting and lowering of the College flag. On dates when tasked to do so.
  • Recognising Senior Members, students and staff of the College.
  • Conduct regular security checks daily as specified around the College and/or Hostels as
directed by the Head Porter Deputy Head Porter and Senior Porter.

  • Undertake every 6 monthly Fire and Safety checks of allocated Hostels and College
buildings and report findings.

  • Take ownership of certain responsibilities allocated to you by the Head Porter, to ensure
the smooth running of the Porter's Lodge.

  • Providing holiday and/or sickness cover within the Porters Lodge, changing shift pattern
where necessary when you are on a working day.

  • Any such other duties as may be required by the Head Porter/ Deputy Head Porter/Senior
Porter from time to time.


Communication:


  • Be able to use the switchboard telephone system for the College, ensuring that the
