Description
The Department of Biochemistry is a vibrant centre of excellence for research and teaching in the Biomedical Sciences.

The department comprises over 45 research groups with around 400 researchers including 100 postgraduate students, and a further 400 undergraduates.

This activity is supported by dedicated teams of support staff.

The Head of Administration and Finance plays a key role in the strategic management and direction of the Department of Biochemistry.

This is an exciting time to join the Department which is co-located in the new building with the Kavli Institute for NanoScience Discovery (KINsD).

Together the Department and KINsD are striving to exploit the full potential of new interdisciplinary links across the Medical, Physical, and Life Sciences.


About the Role


The post-holder will support the Head of Department, the senior management team and the department's academic staff, in delivering their research and teaching objectives.

You will direct dedicated teams for Finance, HR, IT support, Undergraduate Teaching Administration, Scientific Research Facilities and Laboratory Safety to ensure delivery of efficient and cost-effective services within the department.

You will also oversee all day-to-day operational aspects of the department, such as ensuring the satisfactory management and provision of core services, facilities and equipment; the maintenance of and security of departmental buildings; and the line management of senior staff within each of the core departmental functions.


The post-holder will be responsible for overseeing departmental expenditure as well as financial management of the department's substantial portfolio of externally-funded research projects.

You will also provide specific advice and guidance on a range of matters to both senior staff and other members of the department as required.

In addition, you will need to ensure that departmental activities remain aligned with the strategies and operational requirements of the Medical Sciences Division and the wider University.
