Factory Operatives are responsible for processing fresh fish and frozen fish within a safe, clean working environment contributing to the efficient, effective, and safe running of their area in order to fulfill the needs of the business.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Under the guidance of the Supervisor, ensure each product specification is followed and any anomalies are reported immediately
- Maintain a clean and tidy area (workstation, changing room, canteen etc.) meeting both safety and hygiene regulations of the site
- Maintain personal hygiene standards in food manufacture
- Maintain workplace food safety standards
- Always wear the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment within the production area
- Contribute to continuous improvement of food safety in the working environment
- Report any equipment defects immediately to the Supervisor
- Sort fish by hand
- Boxing and correctly weighing of fish
- Trimming knife skills
- Freezing fillets on a nitrogen freezing line
- Correctly and safely sharpen trimming knives
- Erecting cardboard boxes
- Stacking cartons of the packed product correctly and safely
- Feeding filleting machines with the product according to company procedures
- Labeling cartons
- Always behave in a safe and appropriate manner
- Assist during internal/external audits as required
- Adhere to all company rules and policies
- Maintain high levels of work performance including attendance, timekeeping, food safety, H&S etc.
- Ensure that all team members pursue safe working practices and follow all accident and reporting procedures
- Ensure you promote a culture of high hygiene standards and that all team members maintain it
Additional Duties may include:
- Working within the fresh packing area on the OCM system
- Ensuring labeling is correctly printed and attached to packaging/paperwork
- Checking orders that are put through the Promens machine are sealed correctly
- Working in the Fresh Intake area, weighing and checking the quality of fish ensuring amounts match paperwork
- Unloading and loading of containers/vehicles
- Filling in daily sheets for all intake requirements
Skills and Specifications
- An understanding of efficiency
- Ability to work under pressure
- Possess a "right first time" diligent and conscientious work ethic
- Flexibility, reliability, and good timekeeping
- Able to work on your own and as a team member
- Must have good and safe knife skills
- Some heavy lifting will be required up to a maximum of 12kg
- Knowledge of general factory environmental standards and how to maintain factory hygiene standards
- An understanding of Health & Safety and understand food safety management procedures
- Be safety conscious always
- Understand how to maintain product quality and personal hygiene throughout
- Understand how to pack and ice fish
- Understand how to palletise and wrap food products
- Be able to work quickly and accurately
Salary:
£10.52 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
