Description

This is a very exciting opportunity to work within a collaborative EPSRC (Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council) ¿Prosperity Partnership¿ project, funded under the UKRI's Building a Secure and Resilient World strategic theme, which has SP Energy Networks as the industry lead, involves a number of other industrial partners and supporters, and also includes the Universities of Liverpool, St Andrew¿s and Heriot-Watt.

A summary of the research hypothesis is,
¿how will future multi-vector energy networks, with electrical systems as a backbone, behave for a range of scenarios and timescales, and how can an integrated DT of these networks and their connected vectors/prosumers be used to proactively identify, quantify and understand challenges and enable the creation of associated potential solutions?
¿.

We are seeking two researchers to join the project on a full-time basis to lead and work on the Liverpool elements of the project.

This will involve energy modelling and simulation, carrying out research and development of a digital twin of heating systems with interfaces to other energy vectors, working very closely as part of an integrated team with other academics and researchers, and assisting in the supervision of PhD students at Liverpool and at the other industry and university partners.

You should have a PhD (or be about to obtain) in thermal energy engineering or similar area required for this project, such as heat transfer, thermodynamics, refrigeration, heat pumps

The posts are available on a fixed term basis until January 2026.

Any applicants who are still awaiting their PhD to be awarded should be aware that if successful, they will be appointed at grade 6, spine point 30.

Upon written confirmation that they have been successful in being awarded their PhD, they will be moved onto grade 7, spine point 31 from the date of their award.
