Appointeeship, Deputyship and Protection of Property Officer

Our communities are attracted by a mixture of excellent schools, relatively affordable housing, high-quality open space and rapid transport connections into the heart of the City.**The role will involve working across all Local Authority service sectors, with particular emphasis on Adult Social Services (including NHS MH services) as well as care providers, client family members, financial institutions, solicitors/judges, and law enforcement.


Role Purpose

  • To provide an efficient, effective, comprehensive and expert Client Affairs function for Adults Social Care.
  • To include all aspects of Court of Protection Deputyship, DWP appointeeship and property protection in accordance with the London Borough of Redbridge's policies and procedures and in accordance with all statutory requirements.
  • To coordinate, project manage, budget, plan and case manage for all allocated cases to include, Deputyship, Appointeeship, Property Protection.
  • Responsible to provide expert guidance, consultancy and support to council staff and external colleagues on DWP appointeeship, Court of Protection (property and affairs) and Mental Capacity Act 2005 legislation and practice.
  • To be responsible for the interpretation and implementation of relevant guidance.
  • To act in accordance with the requirements of the Care Act 2004 and Mental Capacity Act 2005 that may affect Appointees and Deputyships and abide by Court of Protection Orders and any regulations set by that department.
  • To follow and adapt any new OPG standards of practice
  • Responsible to manage the financial affairs of service users who have been medically assessed as lacking mental capacity and may be vulnerable to financial abuse.
  • To deliver the council's statutory funerals service, as part of PH Act 1984 Sec 46/50 ensuring that duties are performed with appropriate customer care, respect and sensitivity.

Key Accountabilities
You will be able to demonstrate experience of, or ability in:

  • To provide an efficient, effective, comprehensive and expert Client Affairs function for Adults Social Care
  • in accordance with the London Borough of Redbridge's policies and procedures and in accordance with its statutory requirements.
  • To understand and have knowledge of Adults safeguarding and Deprivation of Liberty practices and/or legislation.
  • The ability to take supervisory responsibility for service delivery and resources.
  • The post holder will be responsible for their own caseload management of finances for vulnerable adults that lack the capacity to manage their own finances.
  • Identifying and implementing policy and/or process changes.
  • Working as part of a team and alone without direct supervision.
