The Role & Responsibilities
Underwriting

  • Subject to background and experience, participating in the approval process for exposures within individual discretion
Credit Specialism

  • Knowledge or expertise in one (or more) of the following disciplines: Property Finance (including Development Finance); Asset Finance; Invoice Finance / Asset Based Lending; Structured Finance


The role holder will also be expected to contribute to the wider team objectives, which will encompass some or all of the following.

Group Credit Risk Management Framework

  • Support the continuing evolution, implementation and maintenance of the Bank's Credit Risk Management Framework
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of the Bank's Credit Risk Appetite Framework
  • Review and input to new product development proposals and the periodic review of existing products
Quality Control & Assurance

Contribute to (where appropriate):

  • Review compliance with Group Credit Risk Policies and Asset Class Policies
  • Overview underwriting quality and standards
  • Report on findings and present to Enterprise Risk Management Committee
Credit Risk Policies

Contribute to (where appropriate):

  • Ensuring all the Bank's credit risk management and governance documents are current, fit for purpose and aligned with the Bank's Credit Risk Appetite Statement
  • Supporting the embedding of Group Credit Policies across the various business divisions and seeking solutions to operational challenges as required
  • Providing guidance and support to the 1st Line Risk teams with regard to the evolution, implementation and maintenance of their own Divisional processes, ensuring consistency and compliance with all Group level policies
Shawbrook Risk Committees

  • Preparation of papers for Approval, Noting or Discussion at the Bank's various Executive and Non-Executive Risk Committees as required
  • Following up outstanding Action Points from Risk Committees as required
  • Providing cover for minute taking at the Bank's various Executive and Non-Executive Risk Committees
Credit Portfolio Monitoring

Contribute to (where appropriate):

  • Analyse, review and comment on Credit Portfolio performance including monitoring of Watch Lists and Impairments
  • Monitoring and reporting on compliance with risk appetite and concentration risk limits
  • As required by the Chief Risk Officer, Chief Credit Officer or Head of Group Credit Underwriting, participating in one off "Deep Dive" reviews of the potential impact on Divisional Lending portfolios of oneoff Credit or macroeconomic events

The Person

  • Experience of commercial banking operations and products specific experience of SME and Structured Finance and ideally across some or all of ABL, Retail Banking, Consumer Finance, and Property Finance
  • Background of operating and managing within a control environment and compliance with operating procedures and risk policies
  • Previous Credit Risk and/or internal audit experience
  • Preferably educated to Degree Level, and ideally supported by a professional qualification in Banking or Risk Management
  • Knowledge of Commercial Banking credit risk policy frameworks or experience in analysing SME proposals and underwriting required
  • Exposure to internal audit in a financial services environment helpful
  • Knowledge of the current regulatory regime applicable to banking institutions an advantage
  • Developing business judgement and willingness to adopt an entrepreneurial view
  • The ability to communicate effectively using interpersonal and influencing
  • Collaborative with the ability to develop strong working relationships across a diverse and fastgrowing organisation
  • Conscientious with good attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong commitment to excellence with a focus on quality output
  • Ability to prioritise and manage multiple priorities
  • Drive, energy, and tenacity
