Role summary/purpose of job


The Early Careers Assistant will be an integral part of the team working across both recruitment and development, including managing university relationships and events, organising the firm's interview process and helping with the bi-annual trainee induction.


A core part of the role is to work collaboratively with the other Early Careers Assistant and Early Careers Specialists to provide support in both trainee recruitment and development initiatives.

The Early Careers Assistant will also have a key part to play in representing the firm at recruitment events and therefore this role involves national travel, as well as frequent travel to the London office.

The Freshfields Global Centre provides both business and legal services to the firm.

Our services are delivered in a way which supports the global nature of our firm and our clients, enables our fee earners to deliver exceptional service to our clients and to do that in a way which is efficient and effective.

Function Overview


The Early Careers team recruits 100 trainees per annum and manages their development through the firm's market-leading Trainee Associate Programme.

The Early Careers Team manages every aspect of the early careers lifecycle, from meeting applicants on campus, through to trainees qualifying as associates at the firm.

Key responsibilities and deliverables

  • Management of relationships with a number of the firm's key target universities, through career services, sponsored events and focused activities
  • Management and delivery of a range of virtual and inperson events
  • Assistance with organisation and delivery of the summer vacation scheme and workshops
  • Assistance with maintaining and updating the website and social media channels
  • Preparation of recruitment statistics and presentations for internal and external communication
  • Acting as facetoface point of contact for prospective trainees and helping respond to their queries
  • Assisting with delivering the biannual trainee induction
  • Assisting with the trainee seat move and review process
  • Assisting with the trainee secondment process
  • Supporting and attending future trainee and trainee social events
Key Requirements

  • Graduate with a good understanding of higher education
  • A keen interest and understanding of the early careers industry
  • Strong written skills and attention to detail
  • Strong verbal communication skills, with a confidence to talk/present to groups of people
  • Team player who is well organised and can remain calm and professional under pressure
  • Experience in an office or administrative environment
  • Ability to work independently
  • High level of pc/database skills, including MS Office
  • Flexibility to run and/or attend events outside core working hours
