Assistant Finance Director | £50,000 | Cleckheaton |

The Opportunity
Number 2 in finance for an award-winning, profitable and rapidly expanding group based in West Yorkshire.

If you want to work in a political, pin-striped corporate setting then this one isn't your bag. It's a professional, modern but down-to-earth SME in the £25m - £35m turnover bracket.

You'll know all of the Directors (including the owners) on first name terms and you'll see them daily.

You'll have the autonomy and exposure to swiftly develop understanding around what drives business success, what the levers of profit are, how costs trend, what customer activity tends to look like, the mechanisms of pricing and promotions.


There's the standard core financial management and reporting - making sure month end goes smoothly and the numbers are delivered to the FD with accuracy and timeliness.

But there's commercial business partnering and lots of added value projects to get stuck into alongside the BAU.

It's a business where your efforts are actually making a difference and will be visible, valued and rewarded.


You can make actual change - change to controls, reporting, MI, business discussions, business decisionschanges to how and where money is invested and spent, how stock is managed, how promotions are focused.

changes to things that actually contribute to success and growth. Stuff that's rewarding and stuff that looks mega on your CV


This is such a cracking role for someone approaching qualification / recently qualified and on the journey a senior leadership role in a thriving SME.


It will basically round off all of your skills and see you armed with a toolkit that will allow you to progress to FD downstream.


You need:


Core finance needs to be in your wheelhouse - you need to know your way around management accounts prep (P&L and BS), detailed analysis and reporting, financial controls, month end routines.


You need IT savvy - significant investment is and has taken place around software and you need to be cool getting stuck into embedding the IT that's been implemented.


Great interpersonal skills - it's a vibrant, fun and aspirational SME and you'll need to be cool speaking with / working with colleagues in sales, marketing, operations, warehouse, training, product etc etc etc.

Proactivity and tenacity - you need to be comfortable finding solutions within a growing and ambitious SME.
