The Role & Key Responsibilities


A new role has been created within our Professional Standards Department to be the Business Support Assistant who will work directly to the Business Support Manager.


The department is responsible for the recording and resolution of public complaints and the investigation of conduct allegation for both Police Officers and Staff for Sussex.


This is an exciting opportunity to develop an integral role within the team by supporting the daily running of the department, producing reports and data commentary from our main complaint recording system 'centurion', identify trends in our reports, recognise opportunities to provide a better service to colleagues and the public, and to assist with the daily running of the department for misconduct and complaints recording.


Other areas of this role will be to manage the freedom of information requests that come in to the department along with having the responsibility of capturing and inputting this data on to our publications page on the external website, managing this publication and ensuring that we have integrity in our transparency.

Having a flexible approach to achieve any team or departmental objective is crucial to the success of this role, along with having the ability to work to tight deadlines, and the willingness to undertake a wide range of duties to support the department.


An excellent knowledge of Excel is a requirement - you will be given training on the centurion system and the report writing tools that you will be expected to use.

Skills & Experience

Well developed computer skills with extensive knowledge of Excel is essential.


Previous experience of researching, assimilating, and making sense of relevant information from a range of open and closed information sources.

Ability to work with confidential and sensitive information, maintaining its integrity at all times.


Work effectively with minimum supervision with the ability to work under pressure, prioritise workloads and produce accurate work within tight deadlines.
