We have a fantastic opportunity for a
permanent Highways Supervisor to join our
Area 12 account in
Tingley. This is an
onsite role based at
Motorway Maintenance Depot, Dewsbury Road, Tingley, WF3 1SW.



Area 12 is working in partnership with Highways England since June 2021. Area 12 is made up of 476km dual carriageway, 179km single carriageway and 1,963 structures.


We provide routine, cyclic and winter maintenance and response across Yorkshire and Humberside, also overseeing traffic management during incidents and the operation of the ten maintenance depots in the region.

- maintained and well
- managed, through all-weather seasons we aim to help reduce traffic incidents and severity of road accidents as well as ensure road user of Yorkshire and Humberside feel safer.


The
Highways Supervisor plays an important part in assisting the Operational Team and Ganger by managing all routine and reactive maintenance activities of emergency response operations.

This will be done through the planning and supervision of schemes throughout the network to deliver the works safely, to the required quality, on programme and within budget.


The standard hours of work are 40 hours per week Monday - Friday, with overnight & weekend working as required by the business.


You will be responsible for:


  • Carrying out site visits to ensure work is being completed safely, to the required standards and in accordance with the work programme and carrying out HSEA site inspections in accordance with contract instructions. Provide any technical support to the team as necessary
  • Briefing the team via regular toolbox talks and safety briefings, ensuring PPE is adhered to correctly and carrying out site safety and environmental inspections in accordance with the contract requirements
  • Ensuring that the team accurately records all work carried out on their PDA so that correct claims can be submitted to the client, ensuring all work is carried out in accordance with the CDM
  • Arranging the correct materials and traffic management set ups, ensuring they are in place for the team to complete their work, in accordance with the specification, and with mínimal waste
  • Confirming that the team have the SHARC permit, and stats plans when required and that they are training in the use of Cat and Genny
  • Preparing duty rotas for winter service and emergency call outs. Arranging and processing overtime and timesheets, ensuring compliance with the SOM principals. In liaison with OCR, ensure that employees are not programmed to work hours in contravention of the working time directive and to ensure correct matching of resources and work
  • Promoting a positive approach about our immediate community and workforce

We want to hear from you if you have a good commercial awareness from your previous experience of Highways Maintenance contracts. Your detailed operational knowledge supports your team management skills, helping with excellent organisational and communication abilities. It is essential that you are willing to work outside in all weather conditions and hold a valid UK driving licence for this role.


Ideally you will be qualified in CDM Awareness with experience in CAT Scanner (Highways) and environmental awareness.


In
addition to this, it would be desirable if you have NRSWA Supervisor or NVQ level 3 or City & Guilds qualifications to help you hit the ground running, although this is not essential as we will provide you with the required development you need to bring you up to speed.
