An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 4 Apprentice Associate Sleep/Respiratory Physiologist in the Respiratory/Sleep Department. This is an opportunity for a highly motivated, enthusiastic individual to join this friendly and professional team. We are a busy department providing a wide range of investigations in both Respiratory and Sleep.

JOB SUMMARY

  • As an Apprentice Associate Sleep/Respiratory Physiologist, you will be required to work under close supervision to gain the experience and qualifications required to become an autonomous practitioner. Training will be provided to develop your skills, of which you will be expected to perform unsupervised once reaching a level of competence.
  • This is a training post and Apprenticeship enrolment and completion is a mandatory element. Permanent post is reliant on successful completion of the Apprenticeship.
  • Participate in the service delivery of the designated specialist areas of Clinical Sleep and Respiratory Physiology.
  • Provide and perform, advanced clinical diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in the two disciplines of Clinical Sleep and Clinical Respiratory Physiology, to patients of all ages, from a range of specialties, suffering from a wide variety of medical disorders.
  • Undertake the provision of results and reports.
  • Undertake the education and training of Clinical Sleep and Respiratory physiologists and other healthcare professionals including medical staff within the designated specialist areas.
  • Participate in the service provision including audit, research and development, procurement and quality assurance of all equipment in designated specialist areas.
  • Participate in ensuring effective resource and personnel management.
  • Work collaboratively and cooperatively on a daytoday basis with others to ensure that service needs are met.

ROLE OF THE DEPARTMENT

  • Provides comprehensiveClinical Sleep and Respiratory Physiological Investigation and Therapeutic services to patients of all ages from a large range of specialties suffering from a wide variety of medical disorders including those which may be respiratory, cardiac or neurological in nature.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

CLINICAL

  • Continually monitor and maintain high professional standards, of Clinical Physiological services to patients and to initiate remedial action where necessary.
  • Work collaboratively with other professionals and agencies, to ensure services meet changing healthcare needs.
  • Provide support and assistance to Clinical Physiological staff, in dealing with difficult and conflicting situations including those that are of a clinical/professional nature.
  • May initiate, participate, plan and implement policies.
  • Plan, perform, and provide reports on a wide range of Respiratory & Sleep physiological investigations to patients of all age groups,withsupervision, employing current standards in advanced techniques, taking appropriate action where necessary.
  • May initiate and participate with audit programmes.
  • Participate with research and development programmes.
  • Undertake continuous professional development, appropriate to the range of Clinical Physiology services to patients.
  • Undertake simple fault remedies, cleaning and maintenance of equipment and ensure these are in good working order. In case of equipment failure effectively communicate with the Lead Clinical Physiologist/senior physiologists.
MANAGERIAL / LEADERSHIP

  • Contribute to the management and leadership of senior/assistant practitioners Respiratory/Sleep clinic.
  • Contribute to the efficient and effective use of resources in designated specialist areas of service.
  • Responsible for ordering and control of stock levels in designated specialist areas of service.
  • Participate in assessing, implementing and adapting to new clinical techniques and technologies.
  • Contribute to the planning and organisation of information resources, ensuring effective and administrative patient reporting and data storage. This includes the archival of all relevant investigative data.
  • Promote and ensure equality, diversity and rights for all.
