The Disaster Risk Finance (DRF) team within WTW Risk and Analytics (R&A) brings decades of experience in climate and disaster risk finance as well as broader risk transfer solutions.

The DRF team, working closely alongside colleagues in the Alternative Risk Transfer (ART) team, focuses on providing risk advisory, quantification, analytics, and research, as well as finance and policy advisory services.

Our services are generally framed around four strands of Disaster Risk Finance and often include the development of innovative, parametric insurance solutions:

Strategy Advisory and (Sub-)Sovereign Risk Pooling, Climate-Resilient Debt, Anticipatory Action and Humanitarian Finance, and Ecosystem Resilience, underpinned by our Data Science and Analytics expertise.


The role


In this full-time role, you will support the DRF team within R&A, coordinating closely with ART, the Climate Practice and other WTW groups.

You will be involved in all project aspects, from proposal development to planning and implementation.


By working on cutting-edge projects within a globally recognised team you will have the opportunity to significantly grow your risk financing knowledge and create and deliver innovative approaches to support public and private entities to build more robust and durable mechanisms to address the financial consequences of risk.


Key responsibilities

  • Deliver a wide range of complex consulting projects involving disaster and climate change risk assessments, modelling, and financial structuring for insurance product development;
  • Coordinate across the team, as well as across WTW and external partners to support the development and presentation of placement materials as well as the prompt and accurate assessment and validation of insurance claims;
  • Serve as project manager on smaller and mediumsized projects to ensure deliverables are submitted in a timely manner, coordinate inputs from across the project team (including internal and external partners), and ensure adherence to WTW's governance and professional excellence expectations;
  • Contribute to business development and acquisition through supporting and leading the preparation of project proposals;
  • Manage and cultivate client relationships and interactions, including presentation of project outputs;
  • Prepare presentations, draft speeches and press articles, blog posts etc. for internal and external stakeholders.

The requirements

  • At least 35 years of experience with climate risk consultancies, insurance markets, catastrophe modelling firms, or other relevant institutions;
  • Genuine interest in climate risk and resilience, and ability to adapt to and learn new areas of expertise;
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to synthesize and communicate complex data or information to nontechnical audiences;
  • Knowledge of at least some of the following: Python, R, Microsoft Excel, and/or Geographical Information Systems (GIS) software (e.g., QGIS, ArcGIS);
  • Experience with financial structuring and placement of insurance would be a plus;
  • Familiarity with managing and delivering small to mediumsized projects;
  • Strong writing and presentational skills and ability to clearly summarise large bodies of information into concise reports and presentations;
  • Familiarity with disaster risk finance and climate resilience issues in developing and emerging markets is a plus;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, and ability to deploy effective communication techniques in internal and external stakeholder meetings;
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, multitask and prioritise project work;
  • A confident, dynamic and positive attitude, with an ability to thrive under pressure and the flexibility to adapt to a variety of tasks and situations;
  • Ability to work as a part of a team and independently; and
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills, including the ability to use initiative and prioritise workload.
  • Language skills an advantage (e.g., Spanish, French, Mandarin).
