Description

COMMUNITY EVENTS COORDINATOR
To support families in Battersea and Nine Elms.

CLIENT:
ST GEORGE'S CHURCH / THE LIVING ROOM

SCOPE:
SUPPORTING PROJECTS FOR FAMILIES & CHILDREN

TYPE:
PART TIME PAID (4-10 HOURS P/W - £15 P/H)

LOCATION:

NINE ELMS AND THESSALY

What are the projects?
The projects being planned will support children and families living in and around Nine Elms. They include afterschool clubs, a children's choir, weekend play spaces and family friendly wellbeing activities.

What stage are they at?
Our first cooking evening starts this week and the first Homework Club starts next week.

Before Christmas we hope to gather a children's choir for first rehearsals, and we plan to start an arts and crafts evening when we can find volunteers to run it.

What do you need someone to do?

We need someone who can manage the details of events in a more coordinated way to help them work smoothly together.

At the moment different people are setting up different events in an ad hoc way and there is no coordination of information.

Can you give an example?
Yes. The Homework Club will host around 15 children on Tuesdays from 3.30-5pm for teaching, play and a hot meal. Two teaching assistants and a local church volunteer will manage the evenings.

To make this club work well parents will need to be kept informed and details will need be managed properly.

What about other events?
The homework club is just one event. When we begin the children's choir for example we expect around 30 families to be involved. This will need good database management and good communication skills to support the team.

What sort of person are you looking for?
The ideal person would have event management experience. They would be well organised and good at communication in person and digitally.

The right person would be personable and friendly because we want every event to reflect our values of welcome and hospitality, and the right person would enjoy the company of young people and families.

They would have experience coordinating volunteers or team members.

Where would I work?

Most of the work can be done at home, but there will need to be visits to the church or schools in and around Nine Elms to meet parents or staff.

Regular attendance at clubs is not required

When would I work?

There is scope for flexible working but the person doing the role would need to be contactable during a normal working day.

We would expect the role to suit someone who has children at school or is working part time or has left full time work.

Who will I be working with?
The main point of contact will be the Vicar of Nine Elms, Leighton Carr.

The work will be carried out with a small part time local team in the parish office and the local church.

What is the pay, and how many hours a week are needed?

The pay is £15 per hour, and we expect the role to take between four and ten hours a week.

The work will be on a self-employed basis and not PAYE.

When can I start?

The role is open now but before a start can be made we need an expression of interest with a CV, and then we would arrange an informal interview at St George's church.

We would also need two references and the role will require enhanced DBS clearance, which we would arrange.

I'm interested, what do I do next?

Read the requirements schedule on the next page and if you think this is for you, write to us with a short CV so we can contact you.

This isn't for me, is there anything else I can do?
Yes. If this doesn't suit you but know someone who might fit the role please send this on to them. We are also looking for a good musician to lead a children's choir.
