Description
To maintain a "Maintenance Book" in which defects are recorded by all members of staff. Use this book to effect repairs / replacements daily.

  • To take responsibility for maintaining stores, equipment and tools.
  • To assist / supervise with deliveries to the Home. Monitoring delivered goods closely.

Communication:


  • To liaise with the Home Manager, or a delegated Staff Member, regarding maintenance work to be carried out.
  • To participate in staff and client meetings as required.

Training and Development:


  • To attend mandatory training days / courses, on or off site, as and when required.
  • To maintain professional knowledge and competence.

Health and Safety:


  • To ensure all chemicals / equipment are used correctly and safety procedures are adhered to at all times.
  • To ensure that paints and varnishes are used and stored only in accordance with manufacturers' instructions.
  • To ensure areas in which any painting / varnishing work is being done is well ventilated and safe for clients, visitors and members of staff.
  • To report immediately to the Home Manager, or person in charge, of any illness of an infectious nature or accident incurred by a client, staff member, visitor or you in person.
  • To understand and ensure the implementation of the Home's Health and Safety, Infection Control and hygiene policies, and Emergency and Fire procedures.
  • To promote safe working practice in the Home.
  • To maintain the maintenance file, adhering strictly to all the maintenance checks required by legislation e.g. legionella, fire safety, environmental checks, hot water systems, machinery, medical equipment, lifts.

General duties

  • To contribute to the safeguarding of adults by ensuring you are aware of your role in relation to the Home's Safeguarding Adult's Policy, taking steps to protects Residents from any form of abuse or neglect and use the appropriate reporting mechanisms to inform the Home's management of any concerns.
  • To adhere to all new, and changes in Local and Central Government initiatives as and when they are implemented.
  • To inform the Home Manager or person in charge of any visit to the Home by Contractors.
  • To record any visit in appropriate file.
  • To undertake driving duties if required.
  • To promote and ensure the good reputation of the Home.
  • To ensure all information of a confidential nature gained in the course of duty is not divulged to third parties.
  • To notify the Home Manager, or the person in charge, as soon as possible of your inability to report for duty, and also on your return to work from all periods of absence.
  • To ensure the security of the Home is maintained at all times.
  • To adhere to all Company policies and procedures within the defined timescales.
  • To carry out any other tasks that may be reasonably assigned to you.
  • To be available for advice / action in emergencies that may arise out of hours unless there are circumstances that make this impossible.
  • Where a 'fault' cannot be rectified, providing details of the fault to the Home Manager / person in charge as soon as possible so that services are not disrupted for lengthy periods and appropriate instructions can be given regarding action to take.

Key Skills and Specifications

  • To hold general maintenance knowledge / experience e.g. minor electrical, decorating, plumbing, joinery work etc.
  • To have the ability to work to tight deadlines
  • To possess excellent communication skills
  • To be a confident team player
  • To have the ability to manage pressure and conflicting demands, and prioritise tasks
  • To hold a clean driving licence
  • To have use of a car or similar vehicle
  • To have the ability to organise own time and workload
  • To actively attend training on current Health & Safety / EHO issues
  • To satisfactory clear DBS checks and checks against the POVA List (where applicable)
  • To have knowledge of and understand the workings of central heating systems, laundry equipment and hot and cold water systems
  • To possess knowledge of current Health and Safety regulations
