Salary:
Up to £30,015 per annum FTE (depending on experience)

The role


As a Policy Officer working in a wider UK team, your main responsibility will be to help influence the policies of the Welsh Government around decarbonising homes, sustainable transport and supporting the development of community energy and renewables.


A key part of this role is building relationships with policy and political stakeholders from a range of organisations across Wales and at a UK level.


What you'll do

  • You'll develop and advocate Energy Saving Trust policy positions relating to Wales, providing evidence to shape the policy developing around the Heat strategy for Wales and related policy areas, including producing compelling responses to key consultations.
  • You will build relationships with policy and political stakeholders from a range of organisations across the energy landscape.
  • You will help us to be vocal and influential, working closely and collaboratively with our delivery teams, particularly in Wales, helping to make the case for change that will drive the energy transition.

What you'll bring

  • You should have an understanding of environment and energy issues facing people and businesses in Wales (and ideally the rest of the UK), specifically regarding decarbonising heat, energy efficiency and renewables.
  • You will have a good understanding of the political and policy landscape in Wales (and ideally the rest of the UK) relating to energy and the environment and be able to use this to build strong and influential professional relationships.
  • An excellent communicator, you will use your writing skills to produce key messaging for documents ranging from position papers and opinion pieces to formal consultation responses, effectively conveying information on complex issues to different audiences and making the case for impactful climate positive change.
This is a permanent position offered on a full time basis (37.5 hours per week).

We are open to home-based working or blended working (mix of home and office) with our Cardiff office.

The majority of our people are working from home but have access to our office locations - Edinburgh, London, Cardiff and Belfast.
