About the role:

We are recruiting an enthusiastic and proficient atmospheric or ocean scientist (or similar) to explore and quantify the risk of tropical cyclone impacts in the present and under future climate-change scenarios.

You will develop approaches for estimating storm surge heights based on tropical cyclone tracks that can then be used to generate tropical cyclone-driven coastal flood risk profiles.

You'll join Climate X's interdisciplinary science team, working closely with our storms scientist.

We are an industry-based research group delivering cutting-edge, peer-reviewed science to help build a society that is resilient to the devastating impacts of climate change.

This role is based on-site at our office in London with scope for home working a maximum of 2 days per week.

This role is only available to applicants with the right to work in the UK.

What you bring:

The intern must be based in the UK during the term of the internship and have the right to live and work in the UK.
We are looking for a PhDlevel student with an interest in quantifying climate risk.
Background in atmospheric or ocean science or another relevant field, ideally with experience relevant to dynamical or statistical modelling of extreme weather impacts.
Experience with scientific computing, modelling or data analysis with Python. We work in a cloud computing environment (AWS), experience with this is not vital but would be desirable.
Ability to explain complex concepts to a nontechnical audience.
Handson, cando attitude, great interpersonal skills, and ability to collaborate effectively.
